I noticed that too. They seemed a bit anachronistic and the one lady at the bike shop early in the film with the sunglasses, and her hair was all wrong was not the best. I had forgotten about the sunglasses but, yes, they were ridiculous. 100 years out of place. The movie was set around the 1920s but none of the women’s costumes reflected that. Just ghastly.

It certainly couldn’t be nominated for best costumes. The Caucasian women’s costumes were abominable.

I am so sad about DVD's not really being made anymore. Streaming services have their pluses but films frequently are removed. I finally stopped paying for Netflix DVDs (Sorry for whoever was waiting for Naach. It is permanently mine now) I now have accumilated a ridiculous number of streaming subscriptions. Netflix Amazon Prime with an Eros add on Disney+ gets me Hulu where Hotstar content lives Zee5 gets me more "regional" options Youtube also has alot of movies for rent. Subtitles are a challenge as usual for older films. There just aren't many on the streaming services. I feel llike Netflix had more but there are fewer classics there now. Einthusan is my go to for older and hard to find films. Chances are fair that there will be subtitles. It claims to be a legal site, though I have my doubts (How the heck did they have the Tamil version of RRR uploaded before it hit Netflix and Zee5?) Anyways I have used it for years as a last resort without any problems. Recently they began charging a one time payment of 25$. I had no issues with that either. What other OTT platforms should I throw my money at? As well as the above I subscribe to YuppTV so can access SonyLiv, ALTBalaji and HoiChoi (Bengali content). Our Disney+ doesn’t link to Hulu so I have a dedicated VPN to access Hotstar. Not sure if our Prime links to Eros.

I haven’t seen an Indian movie in the cinema for years - even before Covid hit. They haven’t been screened near me for ages so everything I watch is streamed through Netflix, Prime or another app.
Last week I watched Sonchiriya. It was a good movie but not uplifting and it doesn’t end well for nearly all the characters.

Nearly a month since I last noted what I had watched since Phillauri
In no particular order - Moh Maya Money - with Ranvir Shorey. Real Estate guy tries to make money fast and it all goes horribly wrong The Ghazi Attack Meerabai Not Out Maine Pyar Kiya Mother India (finally) Running Shaadi Barah Aana Jhankaar Beats Sardaarji 2 (preferred the first Sardaarji) Salaakhen
And I also set myself a quest - to watch all SRK movies in chronological order (many will be re-watches)
So far I have ticked the following off the list - In Which Annie Gives It Those Ones Deewana Chamatkar Dil Aashna Hai
I think that has made up for the weeks when I was glued to The Good Wife.

The script for Rockstar is all in Roman alphabet - Hindi dialogue with no translation but all stage directions (if that's what you call them) are in English.

Phillauri - saw this with a friend and we both liked it - thought it was a sweet movie although my friend would have liked some dancing in it.
I have been binge-watching The Good Wife on Netflix so haven't seen much of anything else lately. I'm nearly at the end of season 5 so the end is in sight.

Some techno glitch beyond my control meant I have not been able to login in to the forum for weeks. Fingers crossed the problem is fixed. And am trying to recall what I have seen in that time.

The 2 TV series on Netflix - Zindagi Gulzar Hai and Humsafar. I wanted to give the characters a smack in both of them at one point or another but, overall, enjoyed both.
Lion - excellent. I had been warned that a box of tissues would be necessary but I was OK, only dabbing a couple of times with my handkerchief. Was happy to see Nawazuddin Siddiqui & Tanishtha Chatterjee were in it - only for a short time though and they both played sinister roles.
Ram Jaane - have got about half way through but it isn't very good and I don't know whether I'll continue with it.
Jhoom Barabar Jhoom - quite enjoyed this and what isn't there to like about the Big B as a wandering troubadour giving a bit of narration in song every now & then.
Raees - thought this was very good. Mahira Khan matched SRK very well. I thought it might have ended slightly differently though.

Not only is Humsafar on Netflix, but also the excellent Zindagi Gulzar Hai (Life is a Rose Garden). Both star Fawad Khan, and Humsafar has Mahira Khan who will debut opposite SRK in Raees. I am SO excited to be able to watch Zindagi Gulzar Hai in HD with glorious subtitles! I was never able to find subs for a few of the episodes. Also, on Netflix is Mahira Khan's other soap Saqday Tumharay. Will check it out. Haven't seen much on Netflix (or anywhere else) over Christmas. But I did go to see Dangal yesterday. A mid-afternoon session and the cinema was very nearly full (which could partly be due to post-Christmas shopping sales in the shopping centre where the multiplex is located). I normally book tickets online but my cineclub membership was due for renewal and I was unable to login - anyway did the renewal at the ticket desk and we were seated in the 5th row from the front. Slight danger of a cricked neck but I survived. The movie was just so good A definite for re-watching sometime. My only gripe - a small one - Geeta's opponent in the gold medal match/tussle/bout/fight (whatever it is called in wrestling) was not convincing as an Australian... - the teeniest of gripes.

Bajirao Mastani - only a year late, lol. I wanted to test streaming from ErosNow to my new Chromecast gadget.
1000 Rupee Note - on Netflix. Charming story about an elderly village woman who is given some 1000 rupee notes (before demonetisation, lol) by a local politician and is thwarted in her attempts to spend them.
Also on Netflix - Humsafar - the Pakistani TV series that starred Fawad Khan. So far have only watched the first episode.
I hope to see Dangal next week.

Another movie that is just delightful - Stanley Ka Dabba
Paromitar Ek Din - Bengali movie *ing Aparna Sen, Rituparna Sengupta & Soumitra Chatterjee. Also directed by Aparna Sen. Looking at the dynamics within a family, the friendship between mother/daughter-in-law and also loneliness. Very good movie. And also The Stoneman Murders - a fictional account of the unsolved murders in Mumbai in the 1980s. Oh, Paromitar Ek Din sounds perfect for me: Bengali, family dynamics, Aparna Sen. Putting it on the list for the weekend. Did you like The Stoneman Murders? i can't decide whether to watch it or not. I really like Kay Kay Menon, though. Yes, it was good - they came up with a hypothetical result which was interesting. I didn't find Kay Kay's character terribly likeable even though he is the protagonist. Maybe a notch down from Raman Raghav 2.0.
