The actor suffered a heart attack at his residence in Mumbai early on Friday, reports say. Om Puri, who acted in both mainstream and art films, was known for his gritty performances in a number of landmark Indian films in the 1980s.

It's really a tragedy. I think he is probably one of those actors with some of the greatest variety of roles I've seen. Everything from zany and comedic to intense drama on a really touching level.

Really tragic indeed. At first when I saw the news I thought, it was his time. I just thought him to be older because it seems like he's been around forever. But 66... so young! I really will miss him.
