Arrived today. Turns out the Amazon description was wrong, as I received the Shemaroo version I already own. Bummer, I hate it when that happens. Ah, well. Learning experience, I suppose. I found it on another site and ordered; if this one is wrong, this site has a return policy so I can just ship it back.

The Wikipedia article claims that the censor board officially listed it as being about 4 1/2 hours total - are you aware of any other DVD versions or VHS versions that have the full-length footage?

Luckily, Amazon refunds when asked. And it's free, you just have to print a voucher.

Apparently there's an Esquire VHS out there that's longer, but still not the full length. I opted for YRF DVD as I don't have a VHS player nor the patience to convert it to a DVD, plus I haven't found the Esquire VHS for sale anywhere. EDIT: Here's a thread on another forum comparing differences in the three versions.

In a bit of weirdness today, I got an email from myindiashopping saying an order had dispatched and was on its way to me, months after I've even ordered anything from them. I'm hoping it's the DVDs that got left behind from previous orders--specifically, I'm hoping for Mughal-e-Azam and Anari.

Good to know that there are others too who aren't satisfied with My India Shopping. On March 30 they offered a pre-order of the Telugu film Govindudu Andarivadele which released on DVD two days later. I had impatiently waited the DVD release already for six months so I immediately ordered it along with two other DVDs. Finally, on March 18 I got a message that my package was shipped. The shipment arrived on May 25, more than a month later. However, the pre-ordered DVD wasn't even included in the package, instead I got another DVD that I had ordered. I really can't complain that much since the one I got was an old and rare Rajinikanth film in a shiny DVD case and with subtitles even though the case didn't mention about the subs. The document in the package only said that the rest will be dispached from their branch office. That's weird especially for a pre-order. They are still advertising the movie in their newest email newsletter. Maybe I should sent them a message and ask about the missing DVDs. (I also dislike their habit of packing films in movie posters. The posters usually got destroyed during unpacking, and that's waste of good posters which aren't even made available for buying online!) I'm still waiting for a couple of DVDs from My India Shopping but I got my pre-ordered Govindudu Andarivadele today, four months after the DVD's release! However, I've already seen the movie as I couldn't wait and ordered it also from eBay. Luckily I have a friend who is a huge Ram Charan fan so I can sell the extra DVD to him. (At least I got 10 rupees discount for pre-ordering!)

I'm SO excited to watch them - Mughal-e-Azam, especially...been waiting for this one for a while. Have a pretty long "to-watch" list right now since I've been busy, but that one's going right to the top.

At ebay.fr, I bought 4 DVDs. The seller, troisroses, has 100% good ratings.
EDIT And I received them 48 hours after the order! Very fast seller, and all DVDs are correct.

I visited Nirvana today -- otherwise known as Devon Ave. in Chicago. Margaret (mredlich) took me on a mini-tour. I would be embarrassed to list all of what I bought at the two DVD stores we visited, because I dove into the bargain bin of previously rented movies on top of the new ones I bought. I was like a kid in a candy store looking at a wall of DVD's with several shelves in the Shahrukh Khan section!! Rounded out my SRK collection with One 2 Ka 4. The big find was a DVD copy of Mirchi! Scored one Prabhas Telugu! The other big win was getting a copy of Pyaasa, which my neighbor has been raving about. Bombay Velvet is just out on DVD, and got that (I didn't see it in theaters, and I'm curious.) Also found a DVD of A R Rahman music videos. Let's just say I came home with two bags full -- and a couple of Stardust magazines! So cool to read them in hard copy. I also was so amused that you could buy cricket bats at one of the grocery stores there -- as you do. Attachments:

Did you tell Margaret that you were going to post at Bollywhat? She might have given you a discount. She might even have paid to advertise here! Or she might have decided to join Bollywhat. Perhaps James could travel from Toronto to visit her store. Perhaps he already has! Dancelover I visited Nirvana today -- otherwise known as Devon Ave. in Chicago. Margaret does not own the store I visited so she can't get me discounts! She just lives in Chicago, and she showed me her favorite video stores and a nice Punjabi buffet place for lunch on Devon Ave. Devon Ave in Chicago has a cluster of Indian businesses over a few blocks (and next to it a Pakistani cluster). There are sari stores, Indian grocery stores, and two DVD/music stores. Margaret has been shopping there for enough time to tell me which of the two would have the better selection of Telugu. I live in a far suburb of Chicago, so going in to the city was a trek for me -- but certainly worth it!!

Thank you. I did misunderstand. ISTR you mentioned Margaret some time ago. That settled, if on your next Trek to those stores, you show the salesclerk and/or the owner there that you advertise them here (printed-out hardcopy of your post) and that you buy from them often (old receipts), then they just might give you discounts. Of course, you would have to remember to bring all those papers. Dancelover Did you tell "Margaret" that you were going to post at Bollywhat? She might have given you a discount. Success!!! I made a ridiculous purchase this week that I know this group will totally understand. I bought Lagaan from Induna.com not realizing it was PAL format. Argh! It's not available on Blu-Ray, and very hard to find in U.S. Format or region. I even tried changing the region code on an old laptop to watch the DVD but no dice. This was my first Bollywood movie I saw years ago renting from Netflix DVD. I need to see it again. I looked and Amazon had region free DVD players from Bombay Electronics (ironically in Chicago!) for $50. It seems insane to pay that to watch ONE DVD (but there are all those cheap ones on Induna.........) So it just arrived, I hooked it up and The PAL Lagaan plays immediately! I'm ecstatic and I know you all get why. Still hoping for the Blu-Ray maybe since next year is the 15 year anniversary.

I was planning to buy Nirbaak by the National award winning Bengali director Srijit Mukherji because its plot summary is very interesting. But then I was told that all of his films are worth watching so I ended up ordering all of them...
