Ponniyin Selvan part 1 - Overall enjoyed this. Liked having the fun-loving soldier/messenger being the main character of the movie instead of one of the main kings/princes/warriors. Am kind of disappointed in the fights/special effects. It's like the filmmakers can't be bothered to close the gap with Hollywood. Was only able to pick out a few names of importance in the endless discussions of groups and individuals; certainly a dialogue of thousands if not a cast of such.

It's that time again! Watch a _horrible_ movie in October. Not necessarily a horror movie, a movie so bad you dread watching it, thus being more horrible than watching a horror movie. Maybe you hate one of the leads, or you know the writing is leaden, or the views expressed are diametrically opposed to your own. It's whatever you find horrible. Ideally comment on this post about what you watched and why it is horrible. Note: if you watch something for this and like it, it doesn't count and you should try watching something else you don't want to watch.

On a whim I watched Raazi. Standard spy tropes made interesting by having a sheltered young woman as the spy.

Watched RRR because of the buzz. Then I went back and watched Baahubali and Baahubali 2. When it came out I had tried Baahubali but it didn’t grab me and I stopped watching early in the film. Don’t think I have anything original to say about these three films.

I haven't been here in quite a while. I do look in at the Facebook forum. I see there's a Bollywhat Instagram -- is that "us"? I don't know about that but on Facebook there's a Fans of BollyWHAT? group which is only marginally more active than this forum.

Well, maybe you'll have the solution for this following extract, at 1:54:55. Kareena is saying a single word, I think. And maybe, precisely, "Single"! So, as there a three "single", I duplicated the extract two extra times. And, by the way, do you know why she wants to be called "Marcy"?
To my ears it sounds like "Bingo" which the Oxford dictionary says can be "used to express satisfaction or surprise at a sudden positive event or outcome."
WRT Marcy, it's been quite a while since I've seen the film but perhaps early on in it she wishes to be more Anglo than Indian?

Can you help me for the missing words, please? The DJ says "but you guys can party on with the live band".
I think she's saying "I'll just powder my nose", i.e. she's going to the toilet.

Ouch! More and more difficult, from Piitsburgh to India! There's another question, not about the accent, but about a "hot smog", what could be a synonym? A big stud? A beautiful stallion? A handsome guy? And what does she mean by "How do you do it?"
My guess would be "smog" is some slang, maybe an abbreviation (sexy man...?). I didn't find anything useful on a cursory search.
"How do you do it" is in this context is essentially a continuation of her complimenting the man on his appearance. It's kind of like "what's your secret for looking so good".

'Not applicable', thank you Dil Bert, you have a good ear, and you can decypher Kareena's accent. No problem. One of the joys of English is the wide variety of accents. It might be worth listening to a variety of people speaking English to see if it helps you understand spoken English better, ex:

Now another Kareena's gibberish. What does she say at the end of the video, when you see 3 question marks? Is it English? Is it Hindi? Is it Kareenish? "Not applicable", so not appropriate/relevant. I would guess he rated a zero on her scorecard.

Hello, what is funny in this strip, in your honest opinion? The humor I get from the strip is Patty goes through a long series of corrections with the teacher and then goes back to saying her vague opening statement instead of incorporating the corrections. IMO it's like the comedy routine where person A is about to do something dangerous but is stopped by person B who warns them and explains the dangers, then person A does the dangerous thing anyways and suffers the stated consequences.

Someone proposed having a computer explain cartoons and propose other funny captions would be a good test of artificial intelligence:

This strip was published in July 1993 [...] Hi Patapin,
That's interesting; I had thought the term felt pen was replaced by felt tip pen or marker by that time, but I stand corrected. My guess then is that "Macho Beagle" is a play on "Macho Man Randy Savage" and Macho Beagle carried the felt pen to sign autographs on whatever object fans presented for his signature. Google found references to Randy Savage signing things in black marker. I've read other mentions of celebrities always carrying a marker so they would be able to provide an autograph when asked and not be delayed by the search for a suitable writing instrument.
Feels like there's some specific incident or quotation we haven't been able to find which would make this strip funnier.
Also, this looks to be a good resource even though it doesn't cover this particular strip:

And I'm sure the last box follows from the 2 previous ones. I believe there is a constrast between the tough macho, and his "weapon", that is just a pen.
WRT "Macho Man" it was a general term (from at least the 1970's) describing a masculine man. There was also a pro wrestler who had it as his nickname en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Randy_Savage
I'm afraid I don't have any real insights on the last panel. If you know the year the cartoon was first published, you might search for that year and the year before and some of the words in the last panel. The general setup reminds me a bit of the modern Chuck Norris meme where he is described as doing things mere mortals find hard to do, such as "Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one bird."
My best guess would be there was something about felt pen technology at the time (leaking?) which made them bad to carry. At one point they had glass vials holding the ink, for example. www.historyofpencils.com/writing-instruments-history/history-of-marker-pens/ Beyond that, it seems unlikely it's a joke about a dog carrying its own pen (fenced area, not writing instrument) since 'felt' describes the pen.

Hello fans of Schulze, I tried to search on the web, but found nothing about a "bat bird". Could you please enlight me? Hi Patapin, I think it's a reference to a batboy en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batboy
