Fan - I liked this even though I found the ending to be a bit creepy. I thought that most of the action scenes were unnecessary. Usually I think that a lot of action scenes are included as an easy way out but this felt like SRK at 50 going through a midlife crisis and wanting to prove that physically he can do everything the young guys can. I would have preferred fewer action scenes and more drama. I always like SRK in negative/psycho roles. I know that he became famous as a lover boy but no one does psycho better than SRK. This is definitely SRK's film. Raman Raghav 2.0 - wow, what a punching movie. Nawaz Siddiqi was wonderful playing such an insane, odious character. He won the best male actor award at the IFFM Awards night and deservedly so. I'm interested in seeing this but I'm scared that it might be a bit gory. How gory is it? A bit gory but not overly so, in my opinion. Last night at the festival we saw Moor - a Pakistani movie centred around the corruption that has destroyed part of the train network, in this case in Balochistan.

I needed a bit of an antidote after 3 punching movies at the IFFM. My new Bolly buddy at the festival recommended We Are Family. Found it on Eros Now so gave it a whirl. A bit saccharine but an OK time pass. Not sure if I can see the situation actually happening in the real world.
Back to the festival last night for Waiting *ing Nazeeruddin Shah & Kalki Koechlin. Funny, sad, bitter-sweet, was good.

Rajkahini - brilliant ensemble cast. Heart-wrenching, confronting story about Partition. I was in paroxysms of sobs at the end. A Bengali movie, it is going to be remade in Hindi as Begum Jaan. Got to meet one of the leads, Rituparna Sengupta, and the director, Srijit Mukherji at the Q&A afterwards

Raman Raghav 2.0 - wow, what a punching movie. Nawaz Siddiqi was wonderful playing such an insane, odious character. He won the best male actor award at the IFFM Awards night and deservedly so. After the movie there was a Q&A session with him and Anurag Kashyap. I'll try to find a link to the video of it later.
Under Construction - a Bangladeshi movie about a 'modern Muslim woman struggling to find herself in the sprawl of urban Dhaka'. Rahul Bhose had a role. Incidental songs - lyrics and music by Rabindranath Tagore and part of the story centred around his play Red Oleanders. Another good movie at the IFFM but I wanted the story to last longer, lol.

Parched- opening night movie at the IFFM. For a short while I was breathing air in the same room as Fawad Khan, Radhika Apte and Richa Chaddha. Powerful movie about women empowerment/gender equality. Some nudity and sex scenes are possibly the reason why it hasn't yet been released in India but there are some home truths in it as well - things that apply to women and societies all around the world.

Only 3 more sleeps and I'll be off to Melbourne for the IFFM I have pre-purchased tickets for - the opening night movie - Parched - the IFFM Awards night - Raman Raghav 2.0 which has a Q&A session with Anurag K. & Nawaz S. - Raj Kahani which also has a Q&A - Under Construction - Waiting - Moor - Girl in the River & Saving Face - Angry Indian Goddesses
Also have registered my spot at Rendezvous with Simi Garewal - in conversation with Rishi K. & Neetu S.K.
There are a few other movies that I will probably go and see.
All these movies are at one cinema complex right in the city, easy for me to get to. Another cinema, not far from the city but a tram/train/tram journey, is showing quite a number of other festival movies but I don't want to make that journey by myself at night (the shopping centre it is in is called Highpoint but is commonly known as Knifepoint...)
Yippee!!!!

Finished Shalimar - it is a bit of a hoot And in complete contrast - Black Friday - about the planning and aftermath of the 1993 Bombay bombings. Excellent docu-drama but a wee bit drawn out in a couple of places.

Fan - Exceptional! What else to say? Best movie I saw this year. Just take off some too long scenes of chases or fights, and this film would be the absolute perfection (or nearly). I watched it again yesterday when the DVD arrived

Maya Memsaab - have had the DVD for a little while but didn't realise there was a 'SHOCKING' SRK nude scene. When I found that out I just had to watch, lol - not that I am a perve, ha ha. An odd, arty movie but the nude scene was a little disappointing - torso, a flash of legs and perhaps a sliver of buttock. I think I was expecting a full length back view, lol. There was also a profile shot of Deepa Sahi's boob. But that was it. I realise it was controversial for Indian cinema at that time.
A Decent Arrangement - came across this on Netflix - a US/Indian story of a US/Indian man who travels to Chandigarh (I think) to try to find a wife. His cousin tries to arrange young women for him to 'see'. Him coming to grips with the way things are done. He meets someone independantly. Dialogue nearly all in English. An enjoyable watch.
Zameen - Rohit Shetty's first feature film. Terrorists hijack an Indian plane en route to Kathmandu - the build up to the hijack, the background of the main players (Abhishek B & Ajay Devgn) in the anti terrorist squad and commandos. Car chases, guns, explosions, a traitor or 2 in the commando group and in the airline ground crew, some get a bit slap-happy. Was an OK watch but Neerja was better.
Shalimar (1978) - found this with subtitles on Eros Now and am watching it in instalments - I always seem to start viewing it when I'm feeling a little tired and I drift off to sleep. It is amusing but I find Rex Harrison's dubbed voice a bit weird.

All his legal goings-on plus his case of foot-in-mouth disease certainly coloured my opinion of Sultan.

Oops, haven't posted for a few weeks and had to recall what I've seen in that time. TE3N - was good with a little twist towards the end. Sultan - am not a huge Salman fan and was in two minds whether to see this or not. I went because it was showing at 1:30pm, I had a free ticket and my son came as well (therefore he was my chauffeur). It was OK but I didn't cry (like Amir?) and it is probably a once only watch for me. Salman has become so chunky (he probably bulked up for the wrestling but was getting too bulky) that his dancing looked more like ''dad dancing" than that of someone who was supposed to be 20 years younger than his actual self. Loved Anushka though . I always thought Salman was reasonably tall (and perhaps he is) but Randeep Hooda is noticeably taller - I was quite surprised because I have never thought of him as being tall! Having just said I'm not a huge fan of SK, last night I watched Marigold - a much better physical build for him. Story was so-so, fairly predictable I think. I liked the theme tune from Shalimar being played in Ranbir-the-taxi-driver's car each time Ranbir made an appearance. Also last night - The Japanese Wife - a Bengali movie starring Rahul Bose. Beautiful and touching movie but with a sad ending And at some time a re-watch of Main Hoon Na.Another one I watched in that time but had forgotten about - Mission Kashmir. Hmmm, go after some villain, guns a-blazing, shoot nearly an entire more-or-less innocent family, take in the orphaned, traumatised son - what could possibly go wrong??!!

Rudhramadevi - had tried to watch this a while ago but half the subtitles were missing so gave up. I saw it is now on Netflix so gave it a whirl. Um - raising your daughter as a son - could cause all sorts of problems as she matures... But she seemed to cope and could slay hundreds of warriors without getting a single scratch on herself. What a gal!
The CGI was very flat and cartoon-like and the Venetians had obvious stick-on beards, lol.
