I've been quite enamored with Mohammed Rafi lately...found an album full of ghazals sung by him and have been listening to it every night for a while. As far as filmi music goes, his "Pardah Hai Pardah" from Amar Akbar Anthony (picturized on Rishi Kapoor) has been stuck in my head lately.

"Ishq Bina" from Taal - an impeccable fusion of qawwali and symphony by the maestro A.R Rahman. The violin solo towards the middle followed by Sonu Nigam's lines are a treat to the ears. The video for the song has also been done beautifully, with the creative lighting and the traditional folk dancers. Not to mention the cute Coca-Cola scene at the end between Akshaye Khanna and Aishwarya Rai!

Found this absolute gem of Raj singing for himself in the film Dil Ki Rani (1947). Sounds so much like Mukesh it's crazy: I guess that pairing was pretty fitting!
(also features a 14-year-old Madhubala)

A song with Govinda and Mamta - Kitna bhi no bhaat Any song with even the slightest trace of Mamta Kulkarni should be wiped off the face of this earth for the sake of humanity.

This adorable number from Teesri Manzil...I love everything about it, even though it popped up quite randomly in the film:

From Suhaag (1979), with Big B and Rekha - Teri Rab Ne Bana Di JodiI have a particular affection for this song as it was filmed very close to where we live: the building that later became our apartment block is visible in the background at one point. I've often thought they should put up a plaque in the park: "Amitabh Bachchan danced RIGHT HERE!". And it's lovely to see suburban Londoners going about their business and sitting around in deckchairs, taking no notice of the Bollywood megastars just a few yards away
