Heading to India for a wedding in two weeks, going to have a few train rides there. So I just couldn't help but listen to this today.

This is my most positive takeaway from Salaam-E-Ishq. The title track is ALL Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, and I love it!! Some of my favorite actors, some of my favorite singers, it's so joyful and danceable, I can't get enough of this song lately:

Upset that this soundtrack isn't on iTunes, as I absolutely LOVED the music from this film. Especially this song.

Sooo, after seeing Madamiyan I started looking out for more Shruti Hassan songs and whaddya know, she's quite the dancer! This is the first time I'm seeing an actress who can match Allu Arjun's steps (one of my Indian movie pet peeves is when the actor is an impressive dancer and the actress can do little else but sway her hips - strangely these days the inverse rarely seems to be true)
I'd forgotten how much I love Allu Arjun. Top Lesi Poda is a good one of his too!

Off to track down the DVD to watch at home now... ETA: big shout out to Air Emirates, who were showing this on a flight the other day. Loved the film - will write when I'm somewhere with a decent phone signal.

Yeah, Shruti's pretty good-her dad Kamal is a classically trained dancer (and star) from Tamil cinema who came up to Bollywood in the 80s and kicked over all its assumptions about what male dancing should look like.
I'm not sure why Bollywood (and to some extent Tollywood) feel that choreographing women is not that important, unless they figure that the female audience doesn't care so long as the male lead dances well, and the male audience isn't interested in anything but provocative hip movements from the female performers. (The male leads meanwhile are trying to use their dance steps to prove their coolness and/or virility).
Sonakshi's big dance number from Tevar is a good example; it's supposed to be this brilliant neoclassical performance that drives the villain wild with desire for her, and although the spectacle and Manoj Bajpai's acting and Sona's personality sell the idea moderately well, the dance steps just aren't all that.

Can't stop listening to the 'I' soundtrack, this one in particular. The thing about AR's music, I find, is that at first you like a song or maybe even dislike it. But the more you hear it, the more you fall in love.

The soundtrack from The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. There are a few genuine Bolly tracks (Ye Ishq Hai, Balma, Aila Re Aila and Jhoom Barabar Jhoom) as well as the incidental music with a distinctly Indian flavour .
