Oh dearie, it's funny how my busiest times are also the times I tend to get into Bollywood the most - because that's how I procrastinate! I recently submitted a report to an Indian NGO that I had interned with over the summer (thanks to a good word in from one of my professors). I don't remember if I wrote anything about it on Bollywhat, but I interned with a women's rights organization and got to see a lot of the bureaucratic process, and also proved to be somewhat useful as a translator. I'll be forever grateful that I discovered Bollywood - it literally changed the entire path of my life! Anyway now that the report is finished with I can breathe easily and focus on the million and a half school assignments I've been neglecting. Bravo on your report! And good luck on the school assignments. Being interested in Bollywood has also helped me in writing, in terms of being less inhibited about writing emotional stuff, and paying more attention to setting and worldbuilding.

Well, not a published writer, it's just something I do as a hobby.

Yay, done. I've been doing NaNoWriMo for almost ten years now, but this is the first time I've finished and thought, gee I'm not sure if I want to do this again next year. These past couple days haven't been too bad, since I got a better handle on what works for me in terms of posture, but this year has just been rough on my elbows and wrists for some reason, and the last two had not been great either.

Oh my goodness, tell me your secrets!! I'm about fizzled out at 12k words. I'm in a writing job on the weekends, so I'm just about all pooped out on writing on Monday so my schedule for NaNo is basically just Tues-Fri. Truly, incredible accomplishment.

Every writer is different, I don't know if what works for me would work for other people. What I've been relying on a lot for the past couple years is this: writeordie.com/(there's both a downloadable shareware version and a free online version, to use the latter just set up the sliders at the bottom to reflect the amount of time you have and the amount of words you think you can get done in that time, and press "Try". Do not turn on kamikaze mode). Basically, you type in a web based window, and if you stop typing, the screen will gradually turn red and start playing annoying sound effects until you start typing again. There are supposedly also "startle images" that pop up but I have not had this happen to me and I'm not sure if it works or not. This works best for situations where you have a general idea of what you want to write, you just don't feel like writing it, but I have also found that just babbling along maybe having the characters talk in circles about what's on their mind will eventually give me some more useful ideas on how to move forward, so I find it useful for that as well. Mostly, it's just a tool for helping people make the most of their limited writing time, and in the case of NaNoWriMo, come to terms with the fact that their output won't be perfect.

Very interesting site - will have to give it a try! I feel like NaNo kills me because I'm so meticulous with writing, I want everything to come out perfect right away, and that DESTROYS my word count/timeliness. And then there are those days where I just can't be bothered...unless I'm getting paid, I'm not willing if I don't have the creative flow going.
Again, kudos on getting it done. Quite the accomplishment.

Good luck!
Yeah, I hear you on Just Not Feeling Like It-I've had to write up a bunch of stuff at work these past couple weeks, and usually I had zero inclination to write for NaNo on workdays, and ended up doing these big chunks of words on the weekend.
The meticulousness sounds like it would be a good thing in your writing job, and whatever pays DEFINITELY outweighs NaNoWriMo in my book.

Hello folks. I know I've been MIA here for a while. I'm keeping busy with my day job, and then writing reviews on my blog and essays for my column in Outlook India. All of that's going very well, but it's a little one-way, and I miss all the lively and thought-provoking discussions I've had here over the years. So I was pondering and reminiscing, and thought I'd pop in to say hello.

Hi Everyone! I've been lurking rather than posting lately, because I'm getting ready to move my family to a different state. It has been crazy. Selling a house, buying a house, purging unnecessary items that have just hung around my home for ages because there was no incentive to get rid of them... I didn't think my house looked chock-full of junk or anything, but it's amazing the amount of stuff I have removed! Anyway, it's exciting, and one reason for my excitement is that there are theaters that show Bollywood films fairly nearby to my new home! The actual move is in a few weeks. Wish me luck! ETA: Hi Carla! I'm glad you're around again!
