Useful thread for people to post updates on what is going on with them, without having to start a new thread or post in their old intro thread.
As in, we just had a new grandbaby added to the family last week, Alexandria Rose, 8lbs 12oz. All doing well.

Today's a sad day for me. One year ago, I lost my Daddy. Poppy was a good man, who delighted in learning new things, reading, meeting new people and seeing new places. Daddy spent 26 years in the military, traveling to other countries and experiencing other cultures. He passed that down to me. He was the only one of my family who didn't think my interest in India was crazy or odd. He thought it was great that I was learning a new language, although he wasn't sure where or when I could ever use it. And he teased me about my fan girl crush on SRK.
I miss you "Chief".

Sorry to hear that, and it does take time for the anniversary date to stop stinging so much. This time of year seems to add to that sting, but it sounds like you have some wonderful memories of your Daddy to carry with you. It's great he passed down what he did to you, and from the pic, he looks every inch "The Chief".

Thanks John3b. I know it'll get easier, but it's still so painful.
Poppy loved the Navy, he used to say he was a Senior Chief, but Momma was the Master Chief. We lost her in 2000 but Poppy kept going strong. He tried to raise us to be open minded and curious about everything. He continued to learn new things, right up until the day he left. He was on facebook, twitter and even bought and sold on Ebay! He found the Internet to be pretty amazing. He was the most active man I knew. He played guitar, banjo and mandolin and his "band" played "gigs" at the, as he said, old folks home, right up until his 85th birthday. I have some pretty wonderful memories of him and Momma.

Well, I've had an interesting past few weeks, and I'm set for a February that will be no fun at all. It was discovered that I have a large tumor on my right kidney, and cancer is strongly suspected. On Monday morning the kidney with its attached tumor will be removed. I've never lost an organ before. Actually, I've never had surgery before. Can't say I'm looking forward to it!
If you are the praying type at all, prayers are appreciated!

Oh, Jab, I'm so very sorry to hear that! I can't imagine how frightening it must be for you and your family. I hope the surgery goes well, you have an easy recovery from it, and that the treatment is quickly successful. My thoughts are with you and your family.

Geez, Jab, you take care of yourself over there. *big hugs* I'm not the prayerful type, but my word are you getting all my very best wishes and thoughts for a trouble-free surgery and a quick and full recovery. And may visions of Shahid visit you often in the upcoming weeks to help you get well again asap. xxx

Thank you, Xas. Thank you, Odadune. I know all will be fine in the end, but nonetheless-- I'm pretty terrified. Thanks for the laugh, Xas! But I don't know... as much as I would enjoy visions of Shahid in my hospital room, I might worry that they were dosing me a little too much with the pain meds!
