BollyWHAT? Forum: Rules of Use
by Your Typical Grouchy Administrator
1) The forum isn't a democracy. If a moderator deems your post inappropriate, it is his or her right to delete the post. Should you wish to express disagreement with a moderator's decision, PM or email the moderator in question. (Recall that piece of good netiquette, DDFF: Don't Discuss the Forum on the Forum!) If you find yourself repeatedly disagreeing with a moderator's judgment call, you will be encouraged to find another forum that more closely matches your sensibilities.
2) The forum is not a bathroom wall at the local bar. If you have issues with someone, you are expected to address them privately, through e-mail, with a copy sent to the moderator of the room in which the disagreement occurred. Members should not waste bandwidth and forum space by posting their complaints about individual/s for all and sundry to debate. Such posts will be promptly deleted and may endanger your membership, as past experience has taught the moderators that any member who posts complaints on the forum, rather than addressing them to the source of his/her trouble or to a moderator, is usually more interested in stirring up trouble than in seeking a friendly resolution to the dispute.
3) The forum is not a chatroom. It is geared specifically to fans of Hindi films. Topics like "I'm bored," that do not fit in any of the forum categories and would be better discussed over an instant messenger program, have no place on the board: they waste bandwidth and undermine the forum's effectiveness in addressing the issues of interest which have lured members here in the first place. They will be deleted. Repeated posts of this nature may endanger your membership on the forum.
4) The forum is not an experts' club. It is geared toward Hindi film fans, but above all, it aims to serve the purpose of bollywhat.com: to help newcomers discover the cinema. Therefore "clueless fans" should be treated with respect and enlightened gently. Members who respond rudely will be warned via e-mail; repeated responses of this nature may endanger their membership to the forum.
And finally...
5) The forum is not a boxing ring. It should NOT be a stressful place for any of us. Malicious or deliberately inflammatory comments about women, religions, races, nationalities, or even US presidents aren't acceptable. If someone really feels strongly about something, she should come up with a respectful and well-reasoned way of articulating her beliefs -- and if she can't, then this forum isn't for her.
