We have a thread for the original here: bollywhat.boards.net/thread/741/kanmani-ratnam-dulquer-salmaan-nithya?page=1&scrollTo=7461Mani Ratnam, who directed the original, does not seem to be directing; this is instead being handled by Shaad Ali (Bunty aur Babli, Jhoom Baraba Jhoom, Kill Dill). Sonakshi stars as the female lead opposite Aditya Roy Kapoor, one of the few young guys tall enough and virile enough to not look like a wuss opposite her.  (That's me talking smack about modern Bollywood's fetish for recruiting boyish-looking men of low-average height, for the record, not me picking on Sonakshi.) ETA: latest rumors have Dharma producing the project (possibly without YRF) and Shraddha, Aditya's costar from Aashiqui 2 and alleged offscreen girlfriend, co-starring.

I think Aditya and Sonakshi will do very well together. |

I think Aditya and Sonakshi will do very well together. Shahid is actually much more virile and adult than most men of that physical type; it's why he does so well in "mentally old beyond their years roles" like in Jab We Met and Dil Bole Hadippa. And, like the Khans with Katrina, he's pretty secure about sharing screen space with a tall woman, which he showed in his film with Sonakshi. No, I was thinking of some of the newer guys.  |

Shaad Ali directed "Saathiya," which was a remake of Mani Ratnam's "Alai Payuthey." I wonder if the songs, minus the Carnatic-style "Malargal Kettaen", will be retained.
