Anyone else have songs they love from movies they haven't got around to seeing yet, or maybe don't plan on watching? Not counting promo song videos for movies that haven't actually hit the theaters yet, of course. My list: Aaj Dil Shayarana from Holiday. Odadune turned my attention to this one on another thread a little while back. It's adorable. Ek Do Teen from Tezaab. I had to watch Madhuri's breakout song picturization, and it's fabulous, but the description of the movie doesn't really thrill me. Sheila Ki Jawani from Tees Maar Khan. I don't think I had even heard of this before I watched Bombay Talkies. Katrina is so much fun to watch here! Nagada Sang Dhol from Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela. I'll probably get around to seeing this someday, but in the meantime I've lost count of how many times I've watched this video!

Oh my gosh, I love this thread! There are so many of these songs for me. I'll link to them instead of embedding, so I don't crash the site. I second "Shelia Ki Jawani" and "Nagada Sang Dhol" above and will add: "Kisi Ki Muskarahaton Pe Ho Nisar" from Anari (will watch this soon) "Main Shayar To Nahin" from Bobby (will watch sooner or later) "Jai Jai Shiv Shankar" from Aap Ki Kasam (will watch eventually) "Aasman Pe Hai Khuda" from Phir Subah Hogi (need to watch...it's the song that introduced me to RK!) "Mashallah" from Ek Tha Tiger (maybe will watch one day) "Chammak Challo" from Ra.One (probably will never watch...plot doesn't seem like my cup of tea) "Aaj Ki Raat" from Don (probably should watch eventually) "Bhootni Ke" from Singh is King ( love this song, but iffy on the movie. Will consult our in-house Akshay Kumar expert odadune. Should I watch this film?) "Aati Kya Khandala" from Ghulam (near the top of my need-to-watch list) "Chaiyya Chaiyya" from Dil Se.. (will watch eventually) "Lag Ja Gale" from Woh Kaun Thi? (maybe will watch eventually) And also, "Salaam-E-Ishq" from the movie of the same name is one of my favorite songs, but I didn't like the movie and only watched half of it.

Emily. Singh is Kinng is kind of like a cross between a Jackie Chan comedy (actually, it's based on a Jackie Chan movie which in turn is based on an old Frank Capra movie called Pocketful of Miracles) and a slow-moving Bollywood family drama. I personally feel that it's okayish, fun in some places and dull in others, and relatively inoffensive, but alot of people in the western fandom disliked it intensely when it came out, so I would say check out the other songs and some of the promos and see what you think before committing 2 1/2+ hours of your life to it. Has one of my favorite Bollywood wedding ceremonies at the climax. Jab: Sheila Ki Jawani is by far the best thing about Tees Maar Khan (I should start a thread called "watch these songs and avoid the hell out of the rest of the movie"), and Nagada Sang Dhol is also on my list of great songs from films I haven't seen (the streaming version of Ram Leela I was watching seized up not too long after this song). Aaj Dil Shayrana is so darned cute-I remember it was the last song promo to release: I think I had already strong-armed my friends the non-Bollyviewers into coming with me to see Holiday at the theater and was starting to have second thoughts, but Shayrana made me stop worrying. I will try to put together a full-fledged list later.

Okay, there's De Dana Dan, which has never been high on my to-watch list because I find Priyadarshan's comedy kind of dull, and the main characters are incompetent money-grubbing weasels. And also the one time I tried to buy the dvd I ended up with a gimped copy. Anyway, some great song numbers: Gale Lag Jaa: probably my longest-running "seen the song, not the movie"-it hit youtube not that long after I watched Tashan on dvd, back in 2009, and I watched it over and over again. Still do. Rishte NaateKadhalan: This is a (reputedly) very disturbing and depressing early work from S.Shankar, the Tamil director of I, Endhiran/Robot, Anniyan, and many more. But it has some extremely trippy Prabhudheva dance numbers: Muqabla MuqablaKhatta Meetha: Priyadarshan and Akki again, in what is reputed to be a very sexist and dark comedy about people in the road construction business who are petty, spineless, venal, corrupt, or some combination of the above. I couldn't watch more than the first 30 minutes, but I love all the songs, especially this one: Sajde Kiye Badrinath: this Telugu film is reputed to be a very old-fashioned and preachy family drama/masala thingie, so I've never bothered with it, but Tamannaah and Allu Arjun are amazing in the songs, especially this one: Nath NathRacha: again, reputedly a pretty mediocre movie, and I don't like Ram Cheran Teja as an actor too much, but I bought an entire dvd of Tamannaah songs with a very embarrassing title (Milk Beauty Hits, or something like that) just for this song. Vaana VaanaGauri: as best I can tell from the synopses and the reviews I've found, this is one of those BS martyrdom fantasies about a beautiful woman suffering beautifully because the men around her are being irrational jerks. I understand why people-especially women from rather strait-laced societies-love these things, but I usually hate them, and I've always avoided this one (partly because an actor I like is cast as one of the irrational jerks). But he is very dashing and broody in this song, and I can call it up on youtube whenever I feel like it while continuing to ignore the rest of the movie. Log To MarkarChennai Express: I do totally plan to see this film at some point, just haven't gotten around to it. In the meantime, I have a great fondness for this song. Main Kashmir tu KanyakumariYeh Jawanai Hai Deewani, starring Bratty and Brattier (aka Aditya and Ranbir)...I have no intention of seeing. But it has a great soundtrack and I particularly like Badtameez Dil. Brattier is one helluva dancer. Badtameez DilMaha-Sangram: I keep thinking I want to see this movie (a two-brothers masala starring Vinod Khanna, Madhuri Dixit, Govinda), and never quite getting around to it, but it has one of my favorite rain songs in it and a pretty good bromance song too: I Love YouAkele na reh PayengeVanjikootai Vaalibaan: a Tamil swashbuckler remade in Hindi as Raj Tilak, it is most famous for the Vyjayanthimala/Padmini danceoff which appears in both versions: Kaanum KaanumChaalbaaz: I don't much care for Seeta aur Geeta, the movie this Sridevi vehicle is based on, and since Chaalbaaz a). is very difficult to find subtitled and b). supposedly ditches the quasi-feminist elements of SaG in favor of more evil abusive family nonsense and even jerkier boyfriends for the two heroines, I've never bothered with it. But it has a great rain song: Na Jaane Kahan Se
Talaash: going to see this sometime, but in the meantime I love Bebo's torch song: Muskaanein Jhooti Hai

Racha: again, reputedly a pretty mediocre movie, and I don't like Ram Cheran Teja as an actor too much, but I bought an entire dvd of Tamannaah songs with a very embarrassing title (Milk Beauty Hits, or something like that) just for this song. This is my new favorite Indian-cinema-addict confession. Great list, thanks!

You've given me a lot to check out, Emily, thanks! I would say you are not missing much by giving Ra.One a miss. Chammak Challo is the best part, although it is fun to see some of the stuff Kareena gets to do near the end, if you are a fan of hers. On the other hand, Ek Tha Tiger, while totally riddled with plot holes, is good campy fun. imo Oh my gosh, I love this thread! There are so many of these songs for me. I'll link to them instead of embedding, so I don't crash the site. I second "Shelia Ki Jawani" and "Nagada Sang Dhol" above and will add: "Kisi Ki Muskarahaton Pe Ho Nisar" from Anari (will watch this soon) "Main Shayar To Nahin" from Bobby (will watch sooner or later) "Jai Jai Shiv Shankar" from Aap Ki Kasam (will watch eventually) "Aasman Pe Hai Khuda" from Phir Subah Hogi (need to watch...it's the song that introduced me to RK!) Thanks, odadune. From what I've seen of it Singh is Kinng seems okay, and I really need to watch more Akki movies (have only seen him in Dil To Pagal Hai!) jabimetbollywood, ETT is one of those movies I've kicked around the idea of watching for a long long time...should probably catch it on Netflix before they decide to take it down.

I think Ek Tha Tiger is very much worth seeing for anyone who likes romance+action and likes or doesn't mind the main actors. Akshay is tricky because his film selection skills tend to be bad to mediocre, and some of his more fun movies have content that people sometimes find problematic (the "enhanced interrogation" bits in Holiday, or the sexism in Rowdy Rathore).

Yeah that's the thing - I'd love to get into him but I'm not a huge fan of action films (there are, of course, exceptions to the rule--looking at you, Dhoom series!) and that genre seems to be his forte. I have heard good things about Baby and Holiday, though, so one day I will check those out.

Well, emily, I'm pretty much in the same place you are when it comes to Akshay. Odadune, now you've done it. I can't stop watching Vaana Vaana Velluvaye. Is there anyplace to get an English translation of the lyrics? A simple google search only gives me sites with the lyrics in Telugu. One of these had a comment that said, "Every line has a meaning." I'm sure it does. Would someone tell me what it is??
