Not quite sure which sub-forum this film belongs to, but the strong Bollywood influence means it has a place somewhere. Amar Akbar & Tony is an independent UK film, with a limited release around the country on 17 April. I'm inclined to go and see, just for the title and the Caucasian pun in the trailer, though the shoe-string budget means it's unlikely to win any awards. From the official website:
A Sikh, a Muslim and an Irish Catholic take stock of their lives in contemporary London in Atul Malhotra’s coming of age romantic comedy drama.
The 1970’s Bollywood comedy ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’, about three brothers separated by circumstance, has inspired the title of this British film about three friends driven apart by circumstance. The film explores the predicaments that face its lead trio – Amar (Rez Kempton) whose promising career gets derailed by a turn of events, Tony (Martin Delaney) whose obsession with winning over the Asian woman of his dreams finds him pursuing the wrong woman, while Akbar (Sam Vincenti) an ambitious charmer tries to manage business, love and friendship with the gift of the gab.
This 93-minute movie is a serio-comic exploration of ambition being thwarted by external factors. The characters might be Asian, but they identifiably belong to the multicultural Britain of the present, and their problems could be those of any set of young people anywhere in the world.
A British independent film Amar Akbar & Tony‘s cast offers a mix of familiar faces and some of the coolest up and coming talent in the UK including Karen David, Laura Aikman, Nina Wadia, Goldy Notay, Ace Bhatti, Mark Moraghan, Tanveer Ghani, Amrita Acharia, Dev Sagoo, Manrina Rhode Rekhi, Shide Boss and Meera Syal.
The original soundtrack and score for the film is composed by prolific and ground breaking music producer Rishi Rich.
