Finished this a few days ago and loved it. Will have a full piece on it soon, but here's a short intro, what I have written so far:
It's impossible to overstate the importance of Mother India to Hindi cinema. The first of only three Indian movies to ever be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Film, it tells the tale of the sacrifices made by a mother for her sons, her community, and the ideals of her country. It tells the tale of Radha, who stays true to her convictions despite numerous tragedies befalling her. It showcases the thoughts and opinions of post-colonial India, a fresh country with quite a lot of history still ahead of them.
Through sweeping, inventive cinematography and actors who illustrate perfectly the struggles and sorrows their characters experience, Mother India brings pain to the heart and tears to the eyes, and yet it is still an inspirational film. It has some hiccups along the way, but, for a Hindi film in 1958, it is a more than admirable endeavour into dramatic storytelling.
I feel like this cinematic gem deserves its own thread.

Thanks for bringing this one into focus! If you feel like putting a full review up on your blog, please link us to it. It's been a work in progress for a while now...been busy with work and school, so haven't had much time to put the effort in. FWIW, I did just pull the draft up this evening, so we'll see
