Dohchay Movie Review
Sudheer Varma who made an impressive debut with Swamy Rara teamed up with Naga Chaitanya for Dohchay. This is a stylish thriller with a good dose of comedy. There are some enjoyable moments in the film and is watchable despite few hiccups in the middle. What is it about?
Chandu (Naga Chaitanya) forms a team and does petty crimes by conning people. He has to get rich to help his father come out of the jail. Chandu steals two crores from the dead robbers who have looted the bank as per the plan sketched by Manikyam (Posani). Now Manikyam and a cop (Ravibabu) are after Chandu to get that money. How does Chandu get rid of them to bring his father out of the prison forms rest of the story. Perfomances:
Naga Chaitanya is good as the conman who appears stylish and organized. He is particularly impressive in the romantic scenes as that is his comfort zone. He could put some more efforts in delivering the dialogues. Kriti Sanon once again impresses in this film with her acting skills as well as good looks. Director penned a very interesting character for her. She did justice to it with almost flawless portrayal. Posani Krishna Murali is fine as the villain who appears comical at times. Ravibabu is alright. Brahmanandam and Saptagiri shines in their respective roles. Actors who played the sidekicks of hero and villain entertained with funny one liners. Technicalities:
Sudheer Varma is here to stay. He has unique style of film making and has impressed once again with his talent. There are few loop holes in the script that have let him down at times, but it is a decent output from on the whole. His command over all the crafts can be seen throughout the film. Sunny's music is different from the usual stuff. Songs are nice to watch on the screen. Background score is very good. Cinematography is excellent. Richard Prasad's impressive camera work stands out as the major highlight in the film. Editing is crisp. Production values are good Thumbs Up:
Entertainment Climax Thumbs Down:
Lost steam during second half
Analysis:Dohchay is basically a revenge plot dealt in a different way. Director Sudheer Varma took a very routine plot and weaved a story around it using interesting characters. First half of the film is breezy and entertaining with lots of fun filled moments. Director was successful in keeping the audience entertained without revealing the plot until the interval point. Second half is about how the hero escapes from the clutches of police and the villain. This part should have been engaging and serious, but the director lost grip over proceedings at crucial juncture. Screenplay lost steam when it mattered the most. The casualness of the protagonist worked well in the first half, but seemed illogical and unbelievable in the second half. In spite of Brahmanandam doing a very entertaining character Dohchay keeps on going downhill until the climax sequence. That part is handled well with Posani taking the front seat. Climax sequence almost makes up for the hiccups in the second half. Dohchay is a fun film that can be watched once if you can excuse the loop holes and logical errors in the second hour. It appeals to the multiplex audience and has potential to do well in A centers. Verdict: Pop-Con Thriller!
