I really doubt they'll develop a new show for her, only because it's a one year contract and there's no reason why she would commit to what could be a permanent gig, causing her to relocate and compromise her film career (she'd also probably end up earning less money).
It seems more likely that they'll write her into an extended guest role on an established show. I've been trying to figure out what she'd work best in. Grey's Anatomy could certainly use a South Asian doctor (seriously, have they ever even been in an a hospital?!), and then there's Scandal and How to Get Away with Murder....but I've decided that she'd probably fit in best on a show like Revenge.

I must join you in doubting it, Victoria, but for other reasons. At 32, her film career is already spectacular! It might even be good enough for her to keep being given good roles, in 21st-century India. But as for the money, there is more in American TV than in all Indian Entertainment. Some Leads get $1 million (5 crores) per episode! A Great Deal if she can get it, but there are many established American & English actors fighting for those few good roles.

She's not going to get $1 million per episode, though. The only time that happens is after years on an established show that becomes as iconic as, say, Friends. She'll be lucky if she gets $100,000 per episode tbh. And it's a full time job, so she won't have much time to make movies, where she could easily earn 5 crore per film. And if she becomes less visible in India, she won't get as many endorsement offers, which is a huge source of income for actors in India. This is why it's so tricky handling a career in two different film industries. "It's better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven" as they say.

You raise good points, Victoria. On the other hand, though, if she does become popular in American television, the potential career-span there is greater than it would be for her as a leading actress in BW films, and so there is at least potential that over the long-term, she may make more money there. It's quite a gambit, though. I just hope that if she does do work in American tv, it's at least something interesting. Aishwarya Rai's movie roles in Western films were really not worth the effort of going abroad, IMO.

Networks sign actors for development deals all the time and nothing comes of it. I'd guess that is what is going to happen with PC. I'd be very surprised if they develop her own show for her. She's a complete unknown in the US.
The thing with Ash though is she never really made a big effort to go west. She turned down some big roles and the roles she did do she did because they fit around her BW movie schedule. Bride and Prejudice was her biggest success and I'm glad she did it. It was thru that movie that a lot of people discovered BW.

I wouldn't be surprised if this ends up with her having an extended arc on Scandal, just based on how chummy she and Kerry Washington have been on Twitter.

Priyanka Chopra: Bollywood actress to play FBI agent in QuanticoOne of India's top Bollywood actresses, Priyanka Chopra, has been signed to play an FBI agent in the American television drama, Quantico. Chopra, a former Miss World, has signed a one-year contract with the US studio ABC Network, reports said. She has played the female lead in several hit Bollywood films, including Aitraaz, Krrish and Don. She has been praised for doing unconventional roles in Kaminey, 7 Khoon Maaf, Barfi and Mary Kom. Chopra, 32, will play agent Alex who will be cast opposite Jake McLaughlin and she will unravel the mystery around his real identity, Indian media reports say. In recent years, several Indian actors and actresses and those of Indian origin have been cast in popular US soaps, including Homeland, Newsroom, The Big Bang Theory, House of Cards and The Good Wife. Chopra, however, is the biggest name from Bollywood to make her way to US television.

That is pretty interesting news. It's a fairly generic role - yet another prime-time law-enforcement drama with a beautiful, troubled female federal agent - but a big step for Priyanka and likely what she has been gunning for for some time.
I have found Priyanka to be a very interesting actor, when given an interesting role and a good director - think Barfi, 7 Khoon Maaf (I haven't watched Mary Kom) - but I would set my expectations low for this role. There are just too many shows like this and we've seen this character too many times.

Priyanka Chopra's American TV Debut 'Quantico' to Air on ABC this Fall Priyanka Chopra's fans have a reason to celebrate. "Quantico", the show with which the Bollywood actress is making an American TV debut, has been picked up by the ABC Network for it's 2015-16 primetime season and is set to hit TV screens this fall. Ever since news of "Quantico" been selected by ABC Network surfaced, fans of the former Miss World have been going crazy, thereby making it trend on twitter with hashtag #Quantico. Besides "Quantico", ABC Network has picked up five new drama series for the next season -- Shondaland series "The Catch", Jenna Bans' "The Family", the untitled Don Johnson-Chace Crawford starrer, "Of Kings and Prophets", gritty anthology "L.A. Crime" newly titled "Wicked City", reported Deadline. Earlier this year, Priyanka had wrapped up the shoot of the pilot episode in Los Angeles. The series will see Priyanka play the role of an FBI trainee Alex Weaver, whose past haunts her after she arrives in the town.
"Quantico" is a story of young, bright and best FBI recruits, each of whom has specific reasons for joining the agency and fights all odds during their training at the Quantico base in Virginia. A recruit is suspected of masterminding the biggest attack on New York City since 9/11.
The 32-year-old actress is reportedly the first Indian actor to have been offered a role to play an important character on ABC. Other stars in the drama include Jake McLaughlin as Ryan, Dougray Scott as Liam, Yasmine Al Massri as Nimah, Aunjanue Ellis as Miranda, Johanna Braddy as Shelby, Graham Rogers as Caleb Haas and Tate Ellington as Simon Asher. "Quantico" is written by Josh Safran and produced by Josh Safran, Mark Gordon and Nick Pepper.

That is nothing at all like I thought it would be! Seems almost college-age-ish. Her accent is interesting, it's not quite right, I wouldn't mistake her for an American, but not quite Indian, either. Anyway, I would still probably see it if it was on tv, if only for the novelty factor.
