At this year's Chess Olympiad Aug 1-14, 2014, 177 teams from 172 countries in the Open Section (host Norway had 3, special organizations 3 more), India placed Third, even though V. Anand was the only player in the World Top Ten not to attend. Without him India had the lowest-rated team of the top six finishers, by 60 points, and the second-lowest of the top ten, only 2 points ahead of Cuba, yet they earned the Bronze Medal. Negi, Sethuraman, Sasikiran, Adhiban, and L. Babu showed that Vishy is not the only Indian who can play chess!
India also finished Tenth among 136 Womens' teams.
