Is there a way to show new/unread posts since last visit, as there was in the previous forum software?

I've been looking for this myself, so far without success. My usual entry point to the old forum was the "unread messages since last visit" page, as it makes for very efficient reading, and I'd forgotten how painful it is to step into each folder with unread messages to see whether you want to read them or not.

I think that function just marks the messages as read.
In the upper right on the main page I did see a NEW button next to the word "Participated". Clicking it gave me a popup with new responses to threads in which I had participated.
The other feature I found in the Search page is to enter just a time range, i.e. 10 hours, and search. That seems to list all posts made within the time period.
As to why they may not have included the feature we are used to, I'm not sure. It should be able to tell the last time a user logged on to a forum, and run a query for all posts made after that time. Such a query doesn't seem more expensive than other things they are doing.

There's a snippet of code that I may be able to insert to make this possible. Let me poke around...

That function returns no results for me if I search for any time period under 16 hours, even though there were messages posted in the last 20 minutes. Perhaps I just haven't mastered the interface properly.

Thanks for the correction. I was trying it at work and in my haste must have put 10 in the days box, not the hours box.

I've added "Recent posts" and "Recent threads" links in the navigation bar at the top of the forum. Look up and you should see them!

Thanks; I also appreciate that they work when not logged in.

My Usual Entry Point was "show replies to your posts" which allowed me to stay in discussions, to see first the threads I'd cared enought to answer, and then to check other posts in each Forum. Thanks for the Recent Threads link - it has made using the board much easier. There is one small anomaly which I thought I'd mention, though it's not causing any real problems. If you go to the Recent Threads page, select everything, mark them all as read, and then go to the Home page, then folders there will still be marked as having new messages even though you've marked everything as read. If you go into one of those folders then all the individual messages are marked as read, so somehow the "readness" information is not propagating up to the folders. As I say - it's not a problem as I don't go to the Home page anymore, but it is odd.

I am finding the "New Posts" notification so convenient, that it solves my Recent Post problems. I find that the "New" notification stays in each subforum until I leave it. I find this feature "useful" as it guards against an accident. When I return to that subforum, the "New" is gone from each thread that I read, but remains on threads I hadn't read. I find this Very Good. I *love* these particular features. Howard "Dancelover" Wilkins Thanks for the Recent Threads link - it has made using the board much easier.
