Hi, im a newbie bollywood fan from Mexico!
I've just watched three Bollywood movies so far: Devdas, Lagaan and Kabhi Kushi Kabhi Gham. I want to watch more Bollywood films, and i'd like if you could recomend more films to me.
I like films whit a lot of saaris (i mean, a LOT), a lot of traditional things (gods, ceremonys, henna, etc etc) and a lot of energic songs. I loved Devdas most of all for that, even if the story (i think) its not very good... but the dances! The saaris! Madhuri!
If you know more films like that, please say it!... if you know more films where Kajol acts like in Kabhi Kushi Kabhi Gham i would be great, i loved her in that movie... so cute! so funny!
I discovered Hindi movies long time ago, when i saw whit my parents Moonson Wedding. I got interested and we found Lagaan... i fell in love whit the music and the dancing... so i searched for Bollywood dances and songs in youtube etc.
And then, one day i found Dola Re Dola from Devdas, and i saw the movie after that because i was very curious of knowing why where the two ladies dancing together, where, etc. I fell more in love thanks to Madhuri Dixit and her two songs in the film. Her dancing!
...i decided to search for more, so here i am!
PD: excuse me if i do mistakes, im not a native english-speaker... thanks!

Hello, and welcome aboard! Another interesting one with lots of saris and dancing that I have seen by the director of Devdas and Hum Dil Chuke Sanam is Saawariya, but you may want to check out the songs on youtube to see if they are something you would like (one of them is not very G-rated). I am told that Black and Ram Leela, also from the director of Devdas, are good too. The best historical epic I have seen is Jodhaa Akbar, with Aishwarya. Great costumes and romance but not much dancing. I am told that Umrao Jaan is also a good period piece with lots of pretty clothes and dancing. There is a version with Aish and one with an actress called Rekha, that's about 20 years older. Another good movie for Aish with lots of saris and dancing is the Tamil film Kandukondain Kandukondain, released in North America on dvd as I Have Found It. A subtitled version is here on youtube: For Kajol, the two movies I have seen where she is most like her Kabhi Kushi Kabhie Gham personality are Pyaar To Hona Hai Tha (remake of French Kiss) and Yeh Dillagi (loose remake of the Julia Ormond/Harrison Ford version of Sabrina), but neither are that easy to find. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge has her with Shahrukh, and a lot of people consider it their best movie together. My personal favorite Shahrukh Khan movies are Om Shanti Om (one of the only reincarnation movies I like) and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. If you don't mind Kareena Kapoor (who played Kajol's younger sister in Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham) you might also find the historical epic Ashoka, with her and Shahrukh, interesting (also has one of the main guys from Kandukondain as a villain). My current favorite Madhuri movie is Hum Aapke Hain Koun. She is also very good in her guest appearance in a somewhat strange movie called Lajja, which has an episodic plot about the women of India. Lots of saris and dancing. Hopefully Ally Kumari will be along with more advice about Madhuri movies.

Welcome! Odadune gave you some great suggestions. I would add Paheli with Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukerji for beautiful costumes, music, dancing, and tradition. I also am fond of Vivah, starring Shahid Kapoor and Amrita Rao. I will warn you that it's pretty slow moving and doesn't have all that much dancing, but it does have a lot of (idealized) tradition. It's sweet and has a beautiful depiction of a traditional Hindu wedding. Shahid looks fabulous all dolled up to be married.

Welcome, Nina!
You already got some good suggestions from odadune. But I'd like to warn you that there are no dances or traditional costumes in the movie Black, and both Umrao Jaan movies as well as Lajja are quite slow and you might not like the story much, like with Devdas.
One of my personal favourites is Dil Se, which you have on your list already. I also recommend some older films with Madhuri, although they might seem rather old-fashioned by now: Koyla (with Shahrukh Khan) and Khalnayak (with Sanjay Dutt) - this last one especially for the dance and song "Choli Ke Peeche", but it has other good dances as well, plus a fun story.
Since you loved Kajol in K3G (that's an abbreviation of the long title Kabhi Kushi Kabhi Gham) you might also love her in DDLJ (full title: Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge). Another cute and romantic move that comes to my mind is called Jab We Met. It has a few good dances and a very nice story.
There's a lot to discover for you - have fun!
