Rajnikanth's next live action project, which apparently started shooting yesterday. It's a drama film from the director of the (reputedly very strange, I've not seen it) Kamal Hassan vanity project Dasavathaaram, and the Surya action masala Aadhavan. Aadhavan I have seen; about 70% of it is a standard-issue, moderately entertaining Tamil-style masala with an exceptionally bad comedy track and a cool but underdeveloped premise (My Man Godfrey, only the butler is an undercover assassin who is apparently but not really gunning for the family patriarch). The remaining 30% is hands-down the most bizarre and disturbing flashback sequence I've ever seen in an Indian movie.
And yes, Sona's character is apparently Rajni's love interest. You can try to take comfort in the fact that she's apparently getting a huge paycheck for this movie, but I don't know how much it will help.

Teaser:
Looks like there is a flashback to the colonial era in the 1940s.

Full trailer; looks like it's a reincarnation drama. Awesome sets btw. As for Sona, she looks great, but kind of blends into the scenery a bit performance-wise.

I don't know if it's reincarnation, or if the modern Rajini is a descendant of the Rajini from the colonial days. Either way, expect a lengthy flashback.
We get a version of the Mission Impossible shot where Rajini lowers into the room, the cowboy thing looks a bit like Mukkala Muqabla and Athiradee, and the flashback bit could be a bit Lagaan-ish.
Whoever picked out Rajini's clothes for the modern scenes should been fired and given an eye exam.
