Mausam
It had some beautiful scenes. Shahid did well, although I didn't care for the standard-issue "I'm a young, callous cad and will remain thus until touched by love" way his character was written in the very beginning. Sonam was simply gorgeous and actually performed well, as apparently nothing was asked of her that she couldn't do. In general, though, the script was pretty terrible. Things were not tied together well at all, and the narrative flow was awful. It was often just dull. So much so that the ludicrous ending actually was fine with me (at least in the moment), because at least it wasn't boring!

It's been over a month since I've watched some BW. Clearly the awfulness of Rajdhani Express messed with my head more than I realised. Once Upon Ay Time In Mumbaai Dobara It's a funny thing, isn't it? Not particularly a fan of Ajay or Emraan, but I loved the original OUATIM; am a fan of Akki, Sonakshi and Imran, and thought this was rubbish. What a mess! I was getting decidedly stabby after five minutes of the stupid simile-ridden dialogue, Akki couldn't have been more wooden if someone had carved him out of a railway sleeper and stuck a moustache on it, Imran has to be one of the most unconvincing goondas I've ever seen, and what was the point of Sophie Choudry? Sonakshi was easily the most impressive of the three of them, and at least got some opportunity to show a tiny amount of acting chops, but I hope she gets a vehicle which shows her ability better. She and the soundtrack - Tayyab Ali, especially...what a winner! - were the film's only saving graces.

Ramaiya Vastavaiya
This is so 90s it couldn´t be more 90s if you would try! Right from the introductory shot of the Central jail gate, to overly-smart animal, godly interventions, I hate you/I love you story of two not exactly overflowing with talent individuals, it is actually even more 90s than the 90s itself. Throughout I couldn´t really decide if it was a cute reminder of the films I love, or if it was just regressive. I guess it is a mix of both, and so I partly loved and partly hated it. The content was nothing original in the least - the story starts like 80% of the 90s romance films and second half is a shameless copy of Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya. It is visually pleasing and doesn´t really hurt any sentiment, it has its share of loop holes and a dose of OTT humour.
Sonu Sood does not have a difficult job completely outacting his on-screen behen Shruti Hassan, who was just as able as every other pretty face twenty years ago would have been in a film like this, however her filmi beau Girish Kumar is a blend of annoying and boring. Once he calms down he passes of as decent enough. I was really happy to see still so pretty Poonam Dhillon on the screen again, even though her character of the money-minded momma was very superficial, and unlike epic 90s Maas never got a weepy scene in which she could lament her own wretched nature.
Ramaiya Vastavaiya is stays an old-fashioned plot in an old-fashioned wrap, that can serve as a kind reminder of an era so much loved, but at the same time it definitely convinced me that not evolving and holding onto old clichés is not a way to go for the makers.
6/10

The Tamil movie Irandaam Ulagam (Second World) with Arya and Anushka Shetty. It's a fantasy film by the very ambitious Selvaraghavan. The film has Arya playing double roles in two different parallel worlds. To quote one reviewer: "It’s a love story without a shred of genuine passion". The special effects for the fantasy Second World were really beautiful, but it would have been far far better to have spent the money on a good script.

Silsila - I watched about 2 and 1/4 hours out of the 3, and finally turned it off. The plot is rather thin and there are long stretches where nothing really happens and it was hard to keep up with... Perhaps I should give it another chance when I'm less tired.. Amitabh and Rekha make one of the best looking couples ever - she was so gorgeous here! Jaya was her usual dour self - I've given her enough chances now, but she doesn't do it for me. There's something unpleasant about her and I can't quite place my finger on it.

Jaya's pretty much always gloomy in the movies she made with her husband, from what I've seen; I found her cheerful and likable in most of Anamika (although the main male character is really annoying in that), Koshish, and Nauker, and I'm told she's the same way in Guddi and some other movies that cast her in bubbly girl-next-door roles. (This is NOT me recommending any of the above movies or urging you to give her another chance, just observing that people invariably end up seeing her first in either Sholay, Silsila, or 3KG, and those sourpuss roles are not really the reason she's fondly remembered in some circles.)

No worries Odadune! I will not be seeking out Jaya's other movies.. However, I would love to see Rekha in other movies. Umrao Jaan sounds like a good place to start - I kinda liked the Aish version despite its flaws. The costumes alone were worth it for me - I'm such a sucker for a pretty beaded lehenga choli...

For Jaya who is not dour I recommend Milli, Guddi and Zanjeer. But the best Jaya performance I have seen is Abhimaan. It is not a non weepy role (a remake of A Star is Born I suppose) but her performance is simply amazing.

Chaahat - a bit melodramatic in places but overall, OK.

Just saw Dhoom 3 in theaters. It was much better than I expected. The cheese factor lived up to the Dhoom rep, while the Amir Khan factor lived up to the awesome Amir Khan rep. I swear, it's impossible for the man to be in a bad movie.

Tees Maar Khan- Yes, although the movie was a little silly, I have to say that I was really entertained by it. There were alot of laughs and some parts had me in absolute stitches. Akshay Kumar has quite exquisite comedic timing, and Akshaye Khanna was surprisingly very funny as well.

Akshay Kumar has quite exquisite comedic timing, and Akshaye Khanna was surprisingly very funny as well. yeah, the film was kind of hit and miss for me when I saw it, but I felt like the cast did good with what they were given I showed Amar Akbar Anthony to the More Casual Fan yesterday. MCF thought Amitabh was hilarious and the women were nice but was fairly bored with the storylines for Amar, Akbar and Kishanlal (the dad played by Pran), not to mention confused (it's a lot of characters to keep track of). My original impression of AAA vs. Parvarish was that AAA hit higher highs and lower lows, whereas Parvarish was a little more consistent, and between that and the (somewhat) less complicated plot was perhaps the more newbie-friendly of the two. I'm not saying that you can't show AAA to newbies, but you almost have to treat it as a "canonical" work of the film industry that produced it, like, I don't know, showing "The Adventures of Rabbi Jacob" or "Mon Oncle" to people who don't watch a lot of European films; you need to be ready to offer context and do a certain amount of explaining.
