Hello everyone! I have been reading Bollywhat for a long time and actually posted once or twice back in the olden days, but for the most part I am just a lurker. I live in the Washington DC area, and started my Bollywood obsession back in 2008. The first movie I watched was Devdas, and for some reason I didn't watch another movie for over a year. But after a reintroduction via my local library there was no turning back. Since then I have amassed a collection of approximately 270 movies. I have exactly 1.5 converts to my name, and we have recently started to regularly catch the latest on the big screen which has been fun. When I was working I never had the energy to do more than lurk. With being laid off this past Thursday I am able to contribute to the board now that I have some time ~ so I got that going for me, which is nice. (honestly though, I am messing with my future as I should be working on my resume right now.) As it is, I look forward to spending some time here in between job searching!

Hey, congrats on the impressive movie collection, and the converts. My condolences on the unemployment thing-I've been there, it's not fun. Something I found helpful was to try to keep "work hours"-tried to get up at my usual time, tried to do job-hunting related tasks between the hours of 8 and 5, tried to resist the pajamas-all-day urge. Also, my friends and I have sometimes found temp agencies helpful in the past with regard to finding short-term work that lead into more permanent work. In the meantime, enjoy Bollywhat! (Which movie is Marjaani, btw?)

Hi Odadune! oops - I'll have to fix that - I meant Mardaani - the Rani Mukerji as a cop one. Also looking forward to Gulab Gang, but more for Juhi than Madhuri. I like Madhuri but I really like Juhi and it will be cool (I hope!) to see her in a negative role. Thanks for the advice; I will definitely have to start setting up my days that way. Right now they are pretty unstructured and it isn't very effective at all! Ugh! I am definitely my own worst enemy... If you don't mind me asking; how long did it take for you to find work again? And thanks for the Welcome!

Well, this has been a few years, and of course the economy's gotten tougher in the meantime, but I think it was about five months from the time I was laid off and four months from the time I stumbled across the temp agency to the time the temp agency got me a short-term job that turned into a long term job. The friend who I nagged into doing the same thing was a little bit longer, I think, maybe seven months? We both kept hunting on our own while we were on file with the temp agency. Hope this helps.

Thanks Odadune! Even though every person's situation is different, it is helpful to hear people's stories of how long they were/are out of work.
