Suriya-Lingusamy's Film Titled 'Anjaan', Slated to Release in August 2014Suriya's film with director Lingusamy has been titled "Anjaan" (fearless). "Anjaan" will be jointly produced by Lingusamy's Thirrupathi Brothers and UTV Motion Pictures. This is not the first time that UTV has teamed up with the Thirrupathi Brothers. Earlier, both companies jointly produced Arya-Madhavan's "Vettai" and Vikram Prabhu's "Ivan Veramaathiri", which did well at the box office. Expressing happiness over the association, G Dhananjayan, Chief - South Business, Studios, Disney UTV said in a statement, "We are extremely delighted to continue our strong relationship with N. Lingusamy's Thirrupathi Brothers after our two successful films -Vettai and Ivan Veramaathiri. We look forward to working with South Superstar Suriya and are confident that the movie will be a huge mass entertainer and certainly one to look out for in 2014." Lingusamy said, "We share a great relationship with UTV and our co-productions with them through our banner Thirrupathi Brothers, in the past have been highly successful. We value their support & understanding and happy to co-produce our next film Suriya's Anjaan with them. The studio brings in great professional support, marketing talent and distribution strength with which they back every movie." "Anjaan", deemed as a mass entertainer, will have Suriya and Samantha Ruth Prabhu in the lead roles. The film also boasts of an ensemble cast including Vidyut Jamwal, Manoj Bajpai, Brahmanandam and Dalip Tahil in pivotal roles. The "Anjaan" team has already completed the first schedule in Mumbai and the second schedule is set to begin at the end of January in Goa. The entire film will be shot in locations outside Tamil Nadu. According to the director, "Anjaan" will be directed in "never seen before locations with huge sets and an ensemble of top artistes." The Suriya starrer will have cinematography by cameraman Santosh Sivan, editing by Anthony and music by Yuvan Shankar Raja. It is slated to release in both Tamil and Telugu languages in August 2014.

There is also an item song by Sonakshi Sinha in this. Linguswamy had bought the rights to Special 26 a while back, and for a time I wondered if this was the remake of that (due to Manoj Bajpai's involvement and a news item mentioning Vidyut's character's ambiguous loyalties) but the "mass entertainer" description and the pics seem to disprove that.

I sit corrected-Sonakshi's dates did not work out for the item number, so Chitrangda Singh is doing it.

Samanthacomes off as a little bland here, and Chitrangda's item number looks weird, but Surya and Vidyut as partners in crime looks like a lot of fun, and the bird of prey motif is a nice change from all the lions tigers and roosters (...oh my) of Kollywood.

I suspect that this movie won't be much different from countless other Tamil/Telugu films in which the heroine is poorly characterized and has little to do. The only difference here would be that it has Santosh Sivan's cinematography to elevate it somewhat.

Full trailer: {Click to view!} It kind of looks to me like they're riffing on Alexandre Dumas's The Corsican Brothers, with one twin feeling whatever injuries the other gets.

Baradwaj Rangan's review It runs a posterior-numbing 170 minutes, and there isn’t one surprising moment – not one line of dialogue worth recalling, not one tune worth humming, not one action sequence worth upping the pulse for (they borrowed the doves from the John Woo films, but none of the moves), not one juicy character worth caring about. These are the basics of a masala entertainer, and without them, what’s left? Just the plot, which, as usual, revolves around revenge – and that’s fine. No one walks into these films expecting to be riveted by the protagonist’s struggles with the scientific establishment to slap a new element on the periodic table. What’s shocking is the utter lack of life. This is a dull, dull movie. Lingusamy unleashes the technical arsenal and fractures the narrative and expects us to follow a trail of clues as if this were a twisty noir nail-biter, but it’s no use because the story has all the suspense of a housewife shopping for vegetables. Will her eyes fall on – cue dramatic background score, fast cutting, looping camera moves – potatoes or carrots? Ooh!

Believe it or not, Anjaan is now playing in Philadelphia, along with Entertainment, but Singham returns is not! D
