Saw this for a second time yesterday, this time in Tamil. Still incredibly entertaining. This is classic, archetypal storytelling done with style and vision.
The visuals serve the story and overall feel of the film, without getting in the way. The CGI camera never does anything that seems impossible in physical space, which is sometimes a problem. Sometimes these filmmakers go a overboard with the crazy virtual camera moves.
The only problem I had with this was the romantic angle. Avantika is this strong, proud woman, and Shivudu only sees her as eye candy. Him disrobing her and putting "make-up" on her was highly off-putting. Then she quickly falls in love with him and he takes the mission of rescuing Devasena from her. It would have been interesting if they fought and perhaps she started to fall in love with him because he was the only man she met who was equal to or better than her in a fight. Hopefully she has a more active role in the second part of the film, because she was an interesting character.

Hey Prem Rogue! I might get a chance to see this over the weekend. It's playing in Hindi very close to me and in Telugu about 30 mins away. I imagine the Hindi will be subbed, but was the Telugu subbed when you saw it? I'm a bit torn, I'd like to know what they are saying but I'd also like to hear it in Telugu over Hindi.

The Telugu and Tamil versions were both subtitled. This was the first time I've seen subtitles on a Telugu movie in the theater.

A few links I've come across in my latest obsession over Baahubali. Prabhas doesn't have a twitter account but he posted this short video to his Facebook last week. He just looks overwhelmed with it all and very grateful. If you'd like to stream the soundtrack, here's a link for that!

Rajamouli to extend Baahubali conclusion part By mamatha Earlier Rajamouli thought of paper up Baahubali in two parts. But after looking at the response that the film has customary from all sections of audience across India, Rajamouli determined to enlarge it further. Whereas preparing the story of 2nd part, Rajamouli feel that the whole story cannot be told in part 2. Baahubali 3
World-class director Rajamouli is making huge plans to make sequels to Baahubali. Baahubali created an impression by becoming third Indian movie with a box office collection of over Rs 600 cr. Rajamouli has taken an assessment to shoot Baahubali-2 and Baahubali-3 movies concurrently by taking encouragement from Hollywood blockbuster outcome Lord of the Rings. Rajamouli is holding story planning for Baahubali-3. However, Rajamouli wants to release movies in a gap of six months. With Baahubali reaching extraordinary heights many commercial production houses and huge producers are coming forward to spend huge money in it. Few are coming up with ‘limitless budget’ offers to be a part of this iconic movie. Main theme of Baahubali movie
“A Man who can demolish a hundred men can be a conqueror….but…a man who can save at least one existence is God”. Bahubali is based on the soul of the above lines. Baahubali is cautiously titled for Prabhas, SS Rajamouli’s movie and it’s an ambitious story based movie in which, Daggubati Rana is playing the position of prabhas’ brother in unenthusiastic lead. Anushka Shetty will be playing the female front role in this movie. Prabhas, Rana, Anushka, Ramya Krishna, Tamannah, Nasser Sathya Raj, and Rohini played the main lead roles in Baahubali. Rajamouli’s brother M. M. Keeravani composed the music for this film and the echo direction is done by kalyan koduri. S.S.Rajamouli exposed in a press meet that the finances of the movie is additional than Rs 250 crores. There is no official announcement about “Baahubali -3” from Rajamouli & its team.

Baahubali 3 is on the cards. Its story will be independant from part 1 and 2 but still in the same universe.

Finally had a chance to see it. For some reason I was worried it would be made with some thought to appeal to western audiences. Nope, pure Telugu mass audience goodness. There was so much crammed into this part one of the story I can't imagine what the originally planned single movie would have been like.
I enjoyed the film, but didn't love it. Once the city entered the picture, things became super serious, with way too much speeches and pronouncements instead of dialog for my taste.
One can certainly question parts of the film, but I didn't have big problems with the romance or the heavy metal-ish opposing army in this kind of movie. Given how some women here swoon over Prabhas the actor, not surprised Avantika swooned over his near god-like character.

Saw the Hindi dubbed DVD the other day. Thoroughly enjoyed the spectacle, scale, and storytelling, and wish I'd seen it on the big screen. The acting was as good as it needed to be, given that it was hardly a performance-led film. The soundtrack did not impress me much until I watched the songs again on YouTube in Tamil: for me, they all worked much better in the more liquid Southern language.
Like some others, I was disappointed in Avantika's demotion to a secondary role after falling in love with Shivudu. Her introduction is wonderful, when she turns on her pursuers and gets medieval (or maybe mythological) on them; and I feel the film would have been better if that strong character had been maintained.
I'll definitely go to the cinema for Part II.
