I hope that I have this in the right place. If not, I am sure someone will direct me to it.
We started this or a version of this thread a couple times on past versions of the Forum and felt that it had to be here.
Hope it is OK to mention Tamil films here also. I started watching OK Kanmani on Netflix a few weeks ago and had to pull the plug after about 15-20 minutes.
The film had decent reviews and would probably be fine except the lead characters were very annoying. Early on, the male lead who helps design video games was impressing everyone with a new concept that did not seem all that interesting.
Not Sure If the following is a Spoiler Alert since so early in the film.
But, what made me pull the plug is when the couple see each other in a church at one of their friend's wedding. They were sitting across the aisle, starting signing to each other and then started talking to each other on their cell phones annoying everyone besides them - and me.
This is a major issue for me outside of the films. I came very close to coming to blows a couple three or four times when rude people insisted on talking as loud as they could at public locations. I was not about to waste two more hours with characters that I had already begun to dislike.

Disco Dancer - chronic, lol Trimurthi - will give it another go one day but just found the melodrama level to be too high and continuous! Prince - a ludicrous storyline and they were taking themselves too seriously. But I like the songs... Housefull - I wanted to watch Akki and Arjun but after 20 minutes I threw in the towel.

The one movie that comes immediately to mind is Benaam Badshah. It stars Anil Kapoor and Juhi Chawla, both quite enjoyable actors, so I thought this could be good. Then, to my horror, I realised while watching it that it was one of those atrocious movies where *spoiler alert* the rape victim's only recourse is to marry her rapist. To say I hated the movie would be putting it lightly. I couldn't watch it to the end...

Disco Dancer - chronic, lol Yyyyyup. Do you one further. Pretty much any early Mithun movie I've come across turned out to be a stinker. He's made better choices these days (though not all of them are amazing), but I don't think I'll ever be able to completely let go of just how awful movies like that were...

I liked Disco Dancer! It's no classic, but it's kinda fun. Khanjar (2003) - utterly incoherent and awful. Production started in the 90s but got shelved early on, and someone dusted it off and shot new scenes with a new plot, but didn't make a good job of it. I can't remember what it was, but there was one film I switched off solely because it had Govinda in it in full-on Chunky LaFunga mode. Govinda annoys me, sorry to say.

Watch Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai, which incidentally also stars Anil Kapoor, it tackles the rape topic in a more mature way, alas the film is very mediocre.

Surprised that no one has posted on this thread in three years. Guess everybody has loved all the movies they have watched since then.
I had to pull the plug on two Shahid Kapoor films, one that was highly rated but left me cold.
The highly rated film was Udta Punjab that I am sure most people liked but I could only last for about 20 minutes. The foul language and intense drug references/ narrative was very uncomfortable for me and could not see spending another two hours to see what everyone liked about the film.
I think that I was generous when I gave Kabir Singh 20 minutes. Could not stand Kabir - could not see why he was such a big man on campus and did not want to spend any more time on him than I already spent.
A non-Shahid TV series, Sacred Games, turned me off within the first 10-15 minutes. The beginning with the cat flying to it's death, the extreme sadistic violence, and foul language was way too much for me. I know this got great reviews and not sure why everyone loves it so much. I wish I could because a couple of of my favorite actors are in it.
I guess I am a dinasour who never got used to the increased usage of foul language and highly sexualized story lines in some of the films within the last few years.

Udta Punjab is meant to be uncomfortable, like Requiem for a Dream etc, it’s a movie that’s meant to shine a light on issues happening in the Punjab, unfortunately it’s not all like films of the past, where it’s a jolly place where everyone is kind and friendly. Bollywood like Hollywood cinema from the 50s during the Hays code has been sweeping a lot of social problems under the rug for decades. It is only now thanks to various different mediums, especially Netflix and Amazon Prime that certain shows and movies are being made that the totalitarian censor board cannot suppress. Even a simple show like Made in Heaven on Amazon is packed with social commentary, again much of which will be uncomfortable to those who have gotten used to the candy floss dreamworld that Bollywood has typically adhered to. The foul language if anything is indicative of how people actually talk in day to day conversations. But then again, for many Bollywood is escapist entertainment akin to how Hollywood blockbusters are for Western films, but these are important films and shows being made right now, that will have a big impact on the future of Indian cinema and entertainment.
