Varun was the one I kept seeing floated for the male lead. He would at least make a somewhat believable teenager. I'm with Brooke of the koffeewithkjo tumblr-Deepika isn't who I'd cast as a girl-next-door teenager with cancer. Then again, I'd just as soon stab myself in the face as watch a love story about terminally ill teenagers, so I'm not exactly the target audience, y'know?

While some films have tragedy for a purpose, I truly believe that the purpose of a good, meaningful film is to generate hope in the audience's hearts so they can live their lives with greater optimism and cause positive change in society.

I agree, it would have been better if they'd cast Alia or Shraddha alongside Varun if they are going for a movie about teenagers. But seeing as Deepika is the one the movie has been built around, they may change some things in the story to fit her age. Moreover even without taking age into account I wouldn't have chosen her for this role (Sonam, Kangna or Anushka even Tamannaah would have been better fits IMO because they can be feisty and delicate). Isn't such a love story a first in Hindi cinema? {Click to view!} Shraddha was sick sick too in Ek Villain but there was a glimpse of hope regarding her health if I remember correctly.
This movie will receive rave reviews and applause from the puclic because it would be "innovative". Movies like ZNMDB and Wake Up Sid were nothing new to me but they received a lot of applause because they broached themes that hadn't been dealt with in mainstream Hindi cinema before.

According to Filmfare, Sushant Singh Rajput has been signed to act opposite Deepika I like this much better than Varun. I like Varun, but Sushant I think is more of an Agustus type. The whole point of the book, however, is that they are young high schoolers. I guess I'm assuming they'll age it up to college at a minimum, but it won't have quite the same punch as the original story.

I'm told the original is pretty uplifting if you like what it's trying to do: using a story about dying teenagers to make a point about how time is limited and precious and we should make the most of it, or something like that. I'm not offended by its existence or anything, just grateful nobody I feel that strongly about is in it.

Fresh pair alert! Alia Bhatt and Aditya Roy Kapur to be cast in 'The Fault In Our Stars' remake? DNA WEB TEAM | Sat, 31 Dec 2016-12:55pm Words has it that the two of them may soon be finalised for the remake of The Fault In Our Stars... If the grapevine is to be believed then Alia Bhatt and Aditya Roy Kapur have been finalised for Karan Johar's remake of popular Hollywood romance The Fault In Our Stars. The movie is based on a novel of the same name, by John Green. A source close to the development confirmed this development saying, "Alia was always the first choice for the film. In fact, the project had been planned with her in mind. Now, impressed with Aditya’s performance in OK Jaanu, the production house has approached him for the male lead. If everything goes as planned, the film should take off around June July 2017," reports Bombay Times. Earlier, Homi Adjania has already confirmed that he has been approached to write the script for the Hindi remake of TFIOS. Back in the year 2014, he had stated, "Yes, I have been asked to make a Hindi adaptation of the best-selling book The Fault In Our Stars. As of now, it’s being scripted and only after I lock the draft will we finalise the cast and decide when to shoot it." And now, looks like we already have the lead pair of the film in Aditya and Alia.
