WTF was that? The trailer was so messy and all over the place! Horrible! Looks like a surefire disaster

If the movie isn't a mess like Shaandar it may receive critical acclaim. I think Shahid was great as the cokehead rockstar. The rest of the cast was good too though Alia may be the weakest link (I saw comments praising her and some saying she failed to deliver). The movie may actually be good and if the budgeting was well done then it was earn money.
It seems to be a niche film so I don't think the aim was make a movie spinner out of this.

Interesting trailer. I thought everyone did reasonably well (I was most impressed with Diljit), but I did find a bit of a disconnect between the Shahid scenes and the Diljit-Kareena scenes. Shahid's scenes were over the top and full of dark humor, whereas Diljit-Kareena's scenes were serious and earnest and felt like they were part of a more traditional political drama. In that respect, I wonder if the trailer is indicative of the film wanting to say something about the sociopolitical situation in Punjab, but unsure whether to do it through black humor or through a more traditional political drama format. In any event, the trailer was interesting enough that I will be sure to give the film a watch.

India's censor board asks Bollywood film 'Udta Punjab' to drop half its name, Twitter reacts BY SONAM JOSHI The forthcoming Hindi film 'Udta Punjab' deals with the problem of drug addiction among the youth of the state of Punjab. However, its release on June 17 has been stalled by India's censor board, which has asked the makers of the film to remove all references to Punjab, politics and elections and make over 80 cuts. The film stars prominent Bollywood actors such as Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Alia Bhatt. The censorship is reportedly linked to political factors, especially opposition from Punjab's ruling political party Akali Dal and the fact that the state is holding elections in 2017. “The movie is tarnishing the image of Punjab and its people by showing them as drug addicts,” a party member told reporters. In response, the film's producer Anurag Kashyap referenced the dictatorial government in North Korea in his criticism of the decision. Jha, Jun 7, 2016 - 13:43 hrs IST Is Udta Punjab going to have to change its title to Udta Tommy, the name that Shahid Kapoor is known by in the film? Udta Punjab may have to do away with all references to Punjab. This is what the Censor Board Of Film Certification (CBFC) has been instructed to do by the High Command. Says a source close to the CBFC, "Udta Punjab was first stopped by censors for abusive language and substance abuse. But then it came to light that that the film showed Punjab in a very bad light as a state where a large population of youngsters take drugs." Apparently, the film's producers Balaji and Phantom and director Abhishek Chaubey have been asked to remove all references to Punjab, including the title. Says source,"The Udta Punjab team is in a fix. The censor board has asked references to Punjab completely removed and for the film to be placed in a no man's land.
