Jab's comments from some other threads: I was in San Francisco visiting my sister last weekend, so I seized my chance and saw my first Big Screen Bollywood! It was Shamitabh. Not what I would have chosen (I was hoping for PK), but that was what was playing and beggars can't be choosers. It was interesting. Not entirely sure how I feel about it, except that I really loved getting to see Amitabh Bachchan on the Big Screen. I'll just leave you with my sister's first remark after exiting the theater (she came purely out of love for me, never having had Bollywood on her radar): "That was surprisingly dark." This movie ended up being my first Bollywood movie seen on the Big Screen, because it was playing in San Francisco when I visited my sister last weekend. Don't have time for a lot of detail, but I'll give some quick thoughts: Production values = excellent Performances = excellent Story premise = far-fetched, but intriguing Songs = serviceable, nice, nothing special Song Picturizations = toilets Ending = ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! ! BTW, congrats on your first big screen Bollywood outing, Jab! Corbie's thoughts from another thread: There is am entire "item" number involving toilets. Still processing the film. It was either very very good or very very bad. I actually have not decided yet. Yea, I decided I mostly liked it. I did not like the ending however. The toilets were just plain weird. All in all, glad I saw it. Is there still that thread of medicine only in Bollywood?? Fairly positive review at Filmigirl's blog: filmigirl.blogspot.com/2015/02/shamitabh-two-for-price-of-one.html#more

Dang, I don't think I've ever seen the Vigil Idiot angrier. I think that's a joke about the fact that her light-colored eyes and skin and somewhat androgynous features make her look slightly like Elijah Wood-IIRC, she's not that all that short.

Thanks for moving my comments here, Odadune. Sometimes I forget that the upcoming and review/spoilers threads are separate now! Dang, I don't think I've ever seen the Vigil Idiot angrier. Lol, angry or not, he totally nailed and skewered the preposterous premise of this movie. The fact that I found it intriguing is completely down to Dhanush and Amitabh giving it all they have, and the fact that the two both have electric screen presence. So I enjoyed seeing the two react to and inhabit the situations they were put in, and seeing two big egos trying to ride one dazzling Bollywood career at the same time was interesting, but at no time was it at all believable, or, you know, sensical. VI has skewered many a movie that I have enjoyed, and usually I just think the logical leaps you have to make for some Bollywood films are part of the ride (albeit funny to see VI mock). But I've decided that the ending of this one ruined it for me. I can't get past how completely pointless it rendered a movie that had already asked a lot of its audience. I wouldn't see it again, or recommend it. I think that's a joke about the fact that her light-colored eyes and skin and somewhat androgynous features make her look slightly like Elijah Wood-IIRC, she's not that all that short. Everyone's short next to Amitabh... Yeah, her eyes are beautiful, and the way they loved to have the camera zoom right up so you can appreciate them did remind me of Peter Jackson's enthrallment with Elijah Woods' soulful Frodo eyes.

BoxOfficeIndia reports Disaster. Only 1.25 cr second weekend; estimated 1.75 all second week after 18.25 first week = 20 cr for two weeks. Roy, even while crashing, should do twice that in two weeks. Estimated Shamitabh loss: 30 crore.

I'm just about to start watching this film on Eros Now and I'm confused, the censor certificate at the start states that the film is 153 minutes whereas Eros Now's version is showing as only being 2hrs 18 mins long (138 mins), so that's 15 minutes missing? Imdb also lists it as 2hrs 35 mins whereas wikipedia lists it as 2hrs 15, so which is correct?
