List of nominees here. Thoughts? Certainties? Snubs? Think Shreya is a lock for Manwa Laage. Think that the absence of "Bhagwan Hai Kahan Re Tu" (Sonu in PK) from Best Male Playback is a travesty. Haider with lots of nominations which is unsurprising (need to watch!). Will be cheering on PK!

The Filmfare awards have a history of handing out best acting noms to the Khans regardless of whether they're doing anything particularly challenging in their latest blockbuster, so the omission of Salman and Shahrukh is surprising. Although I'm pleased by the inclusion of Akshay for Holiday (not that he stands a snowball's chance in Mumbai of winning) I'm mildly surprised by that as well. Randeep Hooda for Rang Rasiya is also a surprise, although again, I'm pleased to see him getting some recognition.
If I took the awards more seriously than I do, I might be disappointed to see perennial Filmfare nominee Hrithik being nominated for Bang Bang, where he was basically playing the secret agent version of his humorously uptight Zindagi Na Milega Dobara character, and Sonam (who reportedly was doing her usual schtick in Khoobsurat) being nominated for that film.
Best actress: haven't seen most of the films, but rooting for either Madhuri or Rani on general principle.
Best supporting actor: I'm rooting for either Riteish or Ronit (because the reviews have been good to them and they could use the recognition).
Best supporting actress: Lisa was the best thing about Queen, so rooting for her. Would not mind Juhi or Dimple winning, although the latter already has a supporting actress Filmfare and two lead actress Filmfares.
Music Categories: thought the Ek Villain and 2 States soundtracks were pretty insipid, but the others are reasonable candidates in a sea of mediocrity, and the main thing wrong with the playback categories is them nominating Arjit Singh for multiple songs.
Best film: don't care that much, the nominees are all films I either haven't seen or was not overly impressed with (hello, Queen! You're still overrated!).

^ You think Queen is overrated? Oh boy, haha. I just rented it from iTunes so I'll have thoughts on it soon.

I haven't seen Queen, but I am having a hard time believing that 2 States was nominated. Really? (If I was cooler, I'd have a small clip or gif from the scene in 2 States at the Punjabi wedding, where Ananya responds to talk of the dowry with a disgusted "Really?") I think it's great that Alia was nominated, though. I just think it should have been for Highway rather than 2 States, although she did great with the material in that one. There's just nothing particularly wonderful about 2 States, in my opinion. It's not a horrible movie, it wasn't unpleasant to watch, but best film of the year? Yeah... no.

Of course, for best actor I'm rooting for Shahid. Kya surprise hai na? But I imagine (I have no way to see Indian movies until they come out on DVD or online) from all the raptures over PK that it will be Aamir.

See I'm on the opposite side of the coin; I'm rooting for Aamir but with so much buzz over Shahid's performance I think it's gonna be him! I think it's between those two for the award & could go either way, but I've got a gut feeling Shahid will get it.

^ You think Queen is overrated? Oh boy, haha. I just rented it from iTunes so I'll have thoughts on it soon. It's well acted, has great scenery and not-bad music, and makes some valid points about what it's like to be a woman in a world that favors men. IMO it's also kind of boring and the main character can be annoying. It's not bad, I did kind of enjoy it, but I have the nagging feel that it would not have done nearly as well at the box office without the fanservice.

Nothing against Aamir, of course; he's a very fine actor and from what I hear PK is an impressive achievement. But Aamir is such a Superstar that Shahid is the underdog in this scenario.

Where are the nominees for "Best Screenwriter" and "Best Screenplay?" Those are at once the Most Important Categories ("In the beginning was the Word"), and India's weakest categories, so they are the ones that need recognition the most!

Poor PK. Gonna go cry now. But huge congrats to Shahid; that guy is amazing & I've heard his role in Haider is fab. Odadune's not gonna be pleased with Queen winning...

Shahid won! Also, Tabu won for best female supporting actor. Totally deserved! Yipee! Both are well deserved imo. I haven't yet seen PK so I'm completely unjustified in celebrating Aamir's non-win, but I'll just say: bulgy eyes. (But I do like him, no tomatoes please! ;D ;D)
