Upcoming Films thread is at bollywhat.boards.net/thread/84
First Weekend per BOI in crore: 26, 29.5, 37(!) = 92.5 + 19-20 Monday. Trend: Increase.
Review from Surabhi Redkar in www.koimoi.com/reviews/pk-review/ : 3.5* from 5 (= 7/10). Rave! "Definitely watch." "... multiple layers that deal with human emotions at its best." "... cannot find flaws in work of Hirani ... connect emotions ... give a social message." Film has "the quality to stay with you ..." "... Aamir ... best performance ... great to see [Anushka] come this far." " amazing side characters ... Sourabh Shukla ..." "... Hirani proves ... one of BWs best directors."
Does Redkar really mean to give only 3.5 stars? 1156 User Voters give it 4.

I would give it 4 and a half out of 5, or an 8 on IMDB. We saw it yesterday. We loved it. Aamir had obviously read an old book called The Razor's Edge, which I loved. It had elements of it. One line in particular, which I won't quote as would be a big spoiler.

Prepare yourself to fall in love with Aamir's character "PK."
Seriously, wow. Worth every penny of the admission fee, & then some. I had extremely high expectations going in and somehow, Raju & Aamir exceeded them. I found no flaws with the film whatsoever. It was absolutely sublime. A MUST see.

Does PK remind anyone of "Stranger in a Strange Land" by Robert A. Heinlein?
Filmfare's Rachit Gupta gives it 4 stars (from 5). www.filmfare.com/reviews/movie-review-pk-8013.html "... film had the promise to be much more ... [but] ... still one of the best films of the year." Gupta expects Aamir, Hirani, and VV Chopra together to achieve very high standards indeed! Dancelover

Stranger? Elements, yes. More with Razor's Edge. A mixture in some ways. I need to read that again, Stranger in a Strange Land was a life changing read when I was 13 and it was a new book.

I thought this was a good film. (8/10) Anushka's lips however were very distracting (not in a nice way) - There were plenty of close-ups and her lips looked quite strange.

PK was a good watch, which is now pretty much a given with Raju Hirani. I love how the man picks up these thorny issues that plague India and manages to lay them bare with his trademark brand of gentle satire and irony. That said, I got far more laughs out of Munnabhai and 3 Idiots. The first half of PK was eminently watchable, perceiving the world in general (and mainstream religion in particular) through his alien eyes, I cannot say the same for Part II. Out went the innocent, non-judgemental, all absorbing extra-terrestrial and in came Aamir in his now familiar avatar of Mr Right. If not for the contrivances of his jug ears, green eyes and Bhojpuri accent, one could well have been watching a souped up version of Satyamev Jayate - anyhow, that's how I felt. Anushka was fine but I missed the presence of the wonderfully fleshed out cast in Hirani's previous outings (Circuit and Vidya in Munnabhai, and virtually all the cast in 3-I). My score:7.5/10

I have a question about a song in the movie, for all of those of you who have seen it. {SPOILER} First of all, the scene where the bomb goes off and PK is left in silence, with nothing but his ears ringing, is just...wow. Sends chills down my spine just thinking about it. But when someone kicks his radio, music comes back on, something about "God is up high, he doesn't help his children who fight and suffer..." Does anyone know what that song is? I'd really like to know! I saw the movie again Wednesday and it was even better the second time around. I'm tempted to see it a third time, if it's still in theaters next week (probably not).

You rock!! That's the one!
Seriously, both times I've seen that scene so far I get massive chills when that song comes in. Truly, thank you. It's good to put a name to the song.

Saw this for the third and final time today. Man, what a great film. Hung out with a nice young guy who probably thought I was in the wrong theater, as he kept quizzing me on my favorite movies and actors. Ha!
