Rediff quite like it: Daawat-E-Ishq's best ingredient is charm!Apunkachoice feel it doesn't deliver on its promise: 'Daawat-e-Ishq' is a bland buffetMy opinion is close to the latter. It's Yash Raj so everything looks good enough to eat, but for me the film elements don't come together satisfactorily. The food theme is heavily woven into Aditya Roy Kapoor's side of the story, but only superficially into Parineeta's, while a film about food and love needs both partners to have a strong emotional response to food. The social message is laudable, but the tone in dealing with it veers between lecturing with statistics and comedy in an uncertain way. The music is enjoyable, but rather reminiscent of other films (Main Hoon Na and Jhoom Barabar Jhoom I think). I liked both stars but they don't have much chemistry and somehow the tone was too flat throughout. All in all: beautiful to look at but not the film it could have been.

Thank you for reporting back, MrB! A frequent comment about Habib Faisal's earlier films was that the gender politics tended to be "weird", even for Bollywood, and it sounds like this one is continuing the tradition.

I wasn't expecting much, but I loved this movie! Yay Netflix for streaming it; I don't think I would have actively sought it out. Here is Filmi Geek's review: www.filmigeek.com/2015/01/daawat-e-ishq-2014.htmlIt pretty much captures how I feel about this movie, except I think I'm even more charmed by it than Carla. I recognize the hiccups and missteps but those characters are just so endearing, and Parineeti and Aditya Roy Kapoor did such a good job making them likeable. As mentioned, it is essential for a successful romantic comedy that you really want the leads to get together in the end, and this was a wonderfully successful rom-com for me. And Parineeti's character has a great arc! You don't always see that. Good music, too, with adorable picturizations! In a nutshell, this movie made me feel happy.
