I like this love theme music motif that was layered throughout Gerua and now Janam Janam. Very sweeping and beautiful, and catchy as well.

Wow that is very cool!! Off the top of my head I don't think that ballroom scene is a reference to any other RK film. Have often seen staircases in sumptuous ballrooms in classic movies (eg Andaz) This ballroom (with double staircase) looks like the one in Om Shanti Om (Phantom of the Opera inspired). A few of the black and white shots of SRK and Kajol in ballroom are pretty weird -(shot from beneath looking up) and reminiscent of Main Hoon Don. I saw what looked like a Yash Raj reference (floral fields) and maybe a Dharma one (yellow cable car).

Dilwale Music Review Dec 8th, 2015 by Surabhi Redkar (Koimoi) Music Director/s: Pritam Chakraborty Dilwale starring Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon in lead roles is all set to hit the theaters next week and naturally the excitement is high. The film’s music album was released recently. Composed by Pritam, it is a seven track album. Let’s see how the cheerful or awful, the music of this Rohit Shetty film is. Gerua - Dilwale Music Review
The first song in the album is Gerua, a typical romantic number. Sung by Arijit Singh and Antara Mitra, the song received more praises for it’s mesmersising video as the pair shot in the picturesque locations of Iceland. As the audio track, Gerua does not turn out to be exceptional. It is quite a been-there-heard-that kind of a number. Of course, with Shah Rukh and Kajol’s chemistry, the song will certainly get a special fan following. Manma Emotion Jaage Re - Dilwale Music Review
Before the release of this song, it was being touted to be the club song of the year. Well, unfortunately it does not turn out to be so. The Pritam track takes inspiration from Fifty Harmony’s Worth It. Sung by Amit Mishra, Anushka Manchanda and Antara Mitra, it is not a song you will enjoy for quite long. The peppy number is low on longevity. Janam Janam - Dilwale Music Review
Janam Janam is one of the most romantic songs from the album and possibly my favrite too. Arijit is the star of the song, he croons it with such love that it is impossible not to fall for it. Female vocals have been crooned by Antara Mitra, The song was released recently and with Shah Rukh- Kajol going the Raj Kapoor-Nargis way with rains and one umbrella, the track has already become the most romantic track of the year. Tukur Tukur - Dilwale Music Review
Tukur Tukur is a frolicky number that captures the spirit of Goa. Once again, it has been sung by Arijit Singh, who seems to have become Pritam’s favorite with this soundtrack. It seems, the song will have an interesting video. Some beats of this song also remind us of Bajrangi Bhaijaan’s ‘Chicken song’. Daayere - Dilwale Music Review
Daayere has nothing special in it. The song is similar to a lot of Pritam’s own previous works. Arijit croons it but there is nothing special that he offers with it. The song is a one-time listen kind of a song. Premika - Dilwale Music Review
Premika is another peppy number in the album. It seems it will be pictured on Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon. Benny Dayal and Kanika Kapoor croon this number. The lyrics are not very appealing, nor is the music. Even though it has catchy beats, it lacks the quality to actually make you dance on it let alone any foot tapping. Dilwale Theme - Dilwale Music Review
The Dilwale Theme is a mashup created by DJ Chetas. It is a remix of Janam Janam with Arijit’s vocals only in bits and pieces. The mashup is impressive with a good EDM backing and this could really hit off well with the party circuits. The Last Word - Dilwale Music Review
The Dilwale soundtrack is quite average. None of the songs other than Janam Janam truly stands out. The other songs are more like a one-time listen and won’t make it to your playlists.I am going with a 2.5/5 for the album.

Saw a reviewer say it also reminded them of the "Ruk Ja O Dil Deewane" scene from DDLJ. The beginning of the song reminds me of "balat" scene in DDLJ..(the one which Raj waits for Simran to turn&look back at him and she does).. In the ballroom scene, Kajol's styling is reminiscent of Ruk Ja O Dil Deewane and so is the end pose - but the DDLJ number was quite crazy and this one is dark and rather intense. Tone-wise very different. I can see the 'balat' scene... especially as Kajol is wearing retro gear. I hope there is a decent love story in this movie and it's not just paying lip-service (excuse pun) to the legend of the great jodi. When I hear Shetty wax lyrical about his stunts (further upthread) I kind of sense that that's his love affair...

So excited to see this tomorrow night. I've been very busy and stressed lately. This movie could be a giant pile of crap and I would still love it--I NEED me some Bollywood escapism.
