I really wish they would pair some other senior actress other than Kajol opposite SRK - maybe Madhuri/Juhi/Karishma/Tabu, etc? I mean, I get they've given so many hits together, but it would be interesting to have a different pairing for once..... I concur! plus I never really got the big deal about the so-called legendary SRK/Kajol jodi? I always felt that SRK/Juhi were so much better(it's a pity none of their films clicked expect Darr and they were not even paired opposite each other there ). So other than DDLJ, I found Kajol/SRK pretty loud and exasperating especially in those KJO/Dharma films! MNIK gave me a headache and I highly doubt Dilwale will be any better. Rohit Shetty is a terrible director IMO. The SRK/Juhi jodi is actually more successful than people think; other than Darr: Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman was an above average success Ram Jaane, although a terrible film, managed to do average business Yes Boss was a big hit Their only outright flops together are Duplicate (a pretty cringe-worthy film), Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani (a great film IMO that was a bit too ahead of its times; the theme of using media to fight for a rape victim's justice would be a very powerful scenario in the current scenario of Indian society), and One 2 Ka Four (a film which was started in 1996 and took more than 5 years to make due to lack of funding, again, great performances by the lead duo, but the film was hindered by factors outside their control).

Yeah, that's the point. DI flopped, and Kharisma showed no interest in making another, or dancing in one either! (I'm sure that she could have had "Fevicol Se" for the asking.) She might not be "Lolo" any more.
Dancelover
PS Madhu Jain, in The Kapoors, said her name was the Hinglish spelling of "Charisma" not the Indian "Karishma"
Dangerous Ishhq Dangerous Ishq was a terrible comeback venture for her that didn't do justice to her acting potential. I could envision her in Katrina's role in Jab Tak Hai Jaan (it would have been fitting especially in the second half in which the character is in her 30's), or maybe Rani Mukherjee's role in Talaash (again, another age-appropriate mature role, and it would have been nice to see her with Aamir again after RH.)

The SRKajol jodi is far more iconic than the SRK/Juhi one. SRKajol success ratio is 100% and most of their films are cults from Baazigar to K3G including DDLJ, K2H2, Karan Arjun... Also, you may find that Kajol is loud in her acting but that's because it was what those roles required. In K2H2 she was a tomboy and in K3G a Chandni Chowk girl and even then, both those characters evolved to become calmer. SRK and Juhi may work well together but I've seen the 7 movies you cited in which they acted together and I've never been impressed by their pairing. {Click to view!} They don't share the same chemistry than SRK and Kajol. I wasn't "distressed" when Juhi didn't end up with SRK in Darr or in Ram Jaane while I was bummed when both her and Aamir died in QSQT. I agree with the Rohit Shetty bit ; he isn't the best director out there.

I wasn't "distressed" when Juhi didn't end up with SRK in Darr or in Ram Jaane while I was bummed when both her and Aamir died in QSQT. I agree with the Rohit Shetty bit ; he isn't the best director out there. A bit of trivia - Juhi turned down Kajol's roles in both Baazigar and KKHH. Also, the viewer isn't supposed to be "distressed" when Juhi doesn't end up with SRK in Darr - it's a very grey scenario in which we feel a bit of empathy for SRK's character as the unrequited lover, but also feel relief for Juhi who is finally free from the threatening stalker. The chemistry they share in Darr isn't of the conventionally romantic type - there are much more complex psychological nuances to it. While the viewer feels SRK's frustration when stalking Kiran, we also feel for Kiran whose life has been made miserable by SRK's harassment. On the other hand, I appreciate the SRK/Kajol chemistry most notably in DDLJ, because it was much more humble and genuine. Raj and Simran are able to connect with one another on an emotional level than on a purely physical level. In Raj, Simran sees a carefree personality that she was never allowed to have in her strict Indian upbringing, while in Simran, Raj sees a certain simplicity and stability that has been lacking in his life thus far. I feel that Karan Johar as a filmmaker is horribly shallow; his films tend to focus far too much on the superficial than on any emotional depth. In KKHH and K3G, I didn't really feel their chemistry, and it's not because of SRK/Kajol, it's because of KJo's shortcomings as a writer and director. The only reason why SRK realizes his love for Kajol in KKHH is because of her whole transformation into the traditional Indian woman. There wasn't enough focus on their emotional connection which would have consisted of SRK finding support in Kajol after Rani's death. There are no scenes in the second half which establish any sort of deep discussion about SRK's emotional turmoil; just a repetition of "Hum Ek Baar Jeete Hain, Ek Baar Marte Hain....", a dialogue which IMO was quite unnecessary. In addition, the first half never really told us anything about why Rahul and Anjali were such good friends; how did their friendship develop? What did they do for one another as friends that was so special? KJo leaves a lot of questions unanswered in favor of focusing on the fancy designer clothes and Rani Mukherjee's character (again, a plot of the film that revolves purely around the superficial). As for K3G, I have many grievances about that as well, but for the sake of brevity, those shall be left for later discussion.

As for K3G, I have many grievances about that as well, but for the sake of brevity, those shall be left for later discussion. Yeah, I guess 'distressed' was too strong a word XD . My point was that in all the movies I've seen them (SRK and Juhi) together, I've never found them particularly interesting as a pairing. Regarding K2H2, Kajol was always the first choice as it had been written with her in mind following DDLJ's success. Then again, you may be talking about DDLJ which was offered to Divya Bharti and Juhi -who were two of the biggest stars at the time- before Kajol came on board. In K2H2, I didn't even question myself about the hows and the whys of their friendship, and I actually thought it was quite refreshing that the story behind it was never exposed. I also think the train scene (when Anjali leaves their university) was a way to let us guess that there might have been something more on Rahul's end concerning his feelings for Anjali ; he actually looked quite emotional when he watched the train leave taking his friend away ... Besides, Anjali only realised she was in love with him when Tina came in the picture. It could have been the other way around had Anjali fell for a beautiful stranger and, in the light of her new romance, begun disrearding her friendship with Rahul. I happen to like Karan Johar's work He sure doesn't deliver masterpieces, but his movies are well-packaged products, high on entertainment and make for perfect past-times. Actually, I believe that he should stick to the KKHH, K3G kind of cinema because he doesn't handle 'serious' themes all that well (as proves dy MNIK and his segment in Bombay Talkies which were clearly handicapped by his "heavy-handedness")

I can't really tell even by zooming in, but that sari Kajol is wearing is an absolutely gorgeous shade of orange. Fall colors look so good on her. Then again, might not even be a sari But it looks like it.
