It is not a new drama but if you have not seen it already, you must watch Sungkyungwan Scandal. I managed to see a bit of this last year, but unfortunately I came in late and only saw like the last half-dozen episodes. I really enjoyed it, though. Unfortunately my go-to Asian tv channel is temporarily off-air, and has been replaced by Chinese TV8 which runs a number of dramas, with subtitles, but unfortunately the subtitles are all in Chinese! There is a really interesting looking one called 'Queens', which is an olde worlde thing with lots of glorious costumes and sets, but I have no idea what's going on.

Like Father Like Son This Kore - eda film won my heart not just with visuals and art direction pleasing to my eye, and not just with very good acting from everyone in the cast, but the story was so so good and I liked the way it was told. Shed buckets of tears over this one. And I highly recommend if you are in the mood for a light melodrama that will probably tug your heartstrings without apparent manipulation.

Dong Yi Finally it is over and after 60 episodes, this is probably going to be labelled as "guilty pleasure" in my review files. The only good thing about this show is the acting. But then again I love almost all the cast so I may be a bit biased here. The baddies especially show two types of acting, main villain "less is more" and her brother secondary villain as "the more the better". Other than the acting (and maybe the costumes) there is nothing good about it. The story (a well known one in Korean history) is told as if to a five year old. The conversations are extremely simplistic and the plot(s) become sillier as they near the end. The flashbacks in the large majority of the episodes show things that only happened 10 seconds ago. The comic side characters are not funny (well I have found them hillarious) the jokes are bad bad bad (yeah I had to type it three times) everything in it thought the viewer is a child who has not seen any sageuk before. Now I like the genre and as mentioned about I like the actors and I thought the naive but kind hearted messages hammered through our heads especially in the last 10 episodes are good ones. But save yourself the agony and stay away from this. I enjoyed it and shed tears over it but it didn't really deserve any of it.

It is not a new drama but if you have not seen it already, you must watch Sungkyungwan Scandal. I finally finished Sungkyunkwan Scandal, the recommendation you gave me. I loved it! It was a little bit slow around the last few episodes (as is normal with a show thats had an extension). But its the first Kdrama i've thoroughly enjoyed in a while. So thanks for that recommendation, please post if you have others. I do wish the guy who played the main (Lee Sun Joon) was a little bit more expressive, he was a little bit of a one-tone actor. Luckily he still had great chemistry with Kim Yoon Shik. As an actor and character i preferred Geol Oh (Moon Jae Shin).

So happy to hear that you enjoyed it! My favorite was YeoRim Meanwhile I have watched What Women Want which is a good example of star power. Andy Lau is not a fave of mine but he was excellent and Gong Li -who is a fave of mine- luminious. I liked this (fairly faithful) remake better than the original. Usagi Drop Cute, adorable and tugged the heartstrings in the right way.

Kangchi The Beginning (aka Gu Family Book) I love it due to the cute stars and all the melodrama. Only recommend if you are into those
The Master's Sun a Korean drama inspired by The Ghost Whisperer but in a good way. The premise is there but the execution is decent and different enough. And if I was superwoman So Ji Sub would be my kryptonite. I liked it a lot and can recommend for a little bit of com - melo. Not enough romance but the chemistry is good.
A Touch of Sin I liked the stories, the tidy cinematography, the acting and the film flew by. It is a violent film about violence and its effects on people who perform or were being subject to it.

Cold Eyes This S.Korean film is inspired by the Hong Kong film "Eye In The Sky" (which was ok but nothing special). The story is about a survellience unit of cops and their hunt for a really smart criminal. I liked the S.Korean version a lot better. The rythm of the film never drops and the actors all do a fine job. And maybe it helped that I absolutely love Han Hyo Joo, the lead actress but I find this one very entertaining and engaging with a nice surprise cameo at the end.
Hwayi A Monster Boy I only decided to watch this one because it was lying there purchased on a whim ages ago. Well I liked it very very much. I didn't know much about except that it got some awards and was pleasantly surprised by an original story with decent acting and action with a dash of melodrama (not enough to make me cry and this indicates it is a very minor dose). This one is recommended if you are not squeamish (lots of blood in it)

The Tale of the Legendary Libido - One of my favorite kind of naughty-topic movies. Just noticed the East Asian thread, thought I'd pop in and recommend it for anyone who hasn't seen it. Very 'reverse-lysistrata'-esque plot. Available on Netflix instant.

Sympathy for Lady Vengeance I thought this was pretty brilliant, and was engrossed from beginning to end. Even darker than I expected it to be, but not pointlessly so. I loved the symbolism and Lee Yeong Ae was FANTASTIC.
Wow, just looked up Lee, she was Dae Jang Geum! I haven't seen the drama but people who fell in love with her classic and wholesome image in that show must've been shocked by her role in this!
I'm also watching a Taiwanese drama called Love Myself or You? on and off. It's not anything original but is highly enjoyable, with some ridiculousness (mostly provided by the male lead) but what I love most about it is the female lead - so much more relatable and interesting than most Asian drama chicks, and her character has remained consistent throughout. I just love her.

I Saw the Devil Had mixed feelings. I like the premise and the message, and the execution (npi) was slick, but much like its terrible Indian remake Ek Villain, this had some serious logic issues. I also felt like given the message and this ultimately NOT being a "kick-ass revenge" action movie, they were pretty self-indulgent with the violence and gore.
