Directed by Imtiaz Ali (Jab We Met), this is a "road movie" about a troubled man finding himself in his travels with a much younger (this is a plot point and not just an artifact of the casting) love interest.

Man, what gorgeous scenery! I hate the fact that Bollywood is hyping a couple of childish-looking women like Alia and Parineeti up as the Next Big Thing, when even baby-faced young men like Sushant and Siddharth look too old next to them, but they can act,* at least, and Highway seems to be treating the age gap between the leads intelligently. My own hunch is that this is going to be a movie observing extremely messed-up people, ala Ranjhaanaa, that audiences will eat up for all the wrong reasons.
*In Alia's case, I'm basing this on my positive impressive of her as a child artiste in Sangharsh.

Synopsis from the films website:
I haven't seen SOTY, so I haven't Alia Bhatt in anything before, but she seems absolutely perfect for this.

Looks good! I was probably the only person who thought Alia was the strongest (or eh, least bad?) actor in SOTY, so I'm only a little surprised to see that she's taken on this role with a lot of maturity. And the muuuuuusiiiic is gonna be aaawwwessomme!!!

I feel required to say that I do not deem 25-year-old Parineeti to be "childish-looking." Dancelover, who does not claim to be expert at guessing people's ages

Not here for this dumb, tone-deaf depiction of a kidnapping.

Ick. The trailer did a fair job of selling me on the idea that the filmmakers knew what they were doing and were hopefully going to acknowledge/deal with the Stockholm Syndrome/Reverse Stockholm Syndrome aspects of the plot. However, the song promo is just gross in its obsession with Alia-as-child. Song itself is a long ways from ARRahman's best work.
