This is a slowly progressing, somewhat troubled production by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, starring Priyanka Chopra as the Olympic boxer Mary Kom. Priyanka comes from a different ethnic group than the one Mary belongs to, and this and some distasteful early makeup tests (think "yellowface" as in "Mickey Rooney in Breakfast at Tiffany's) have led to some controversies. Rani Mukerjee was also considered for the role, but was uncomfortable working with a first-time director.

I beg pardon for not noticing the first one. I did look for it. Dancelover

I don't see why they couldn't have just hired a Manipuri actress, instead of hiring someone of a different ethnicity and putting her in disgusting yellow face makeup. Really disappointed in Priyanka for accepting this role, to be honest.

They ultimately ditched the makeup idea; they'd also flirted with the idea of changing Priyanka's appearance via cgi but the only "official" teaser pictures they've released (not counting the makeup tests, which were apparently leaked without the producers' approval) had Priyanka looking fairly unchanged IIRC.
Still not a great idea.

Really disappointed in Priyanka for accepting this role, to be honest. I honestly am too. I mean, she is the best out of all the big names, as she does some similar features to Kom (lips, flat nose... of course she only has that because of surgeries) , but if Bollywood can give leads to random non-Indian white girls, with ZERO experience... they can cast non Indo-Aryan/Dravidian actresses.

Yeah, I don't put all of the blame on Priyanka because this is a more systematic issue that is deep rooted. Bollywood films have had a long history of failing to accurately reflect India's diversity, but I still feel Priyanka (and Sanjay Leela Bhansali) should have known better.

Mary Kom has been delayed from its October 2 release for what sounds like reshoots: www.bollywoodhungama.com/more/news/view/id/2549925(Subhash K. Jha, who wrote this, has the reputation of being friendly with SLB, so this is about the most positive take on the situation possible.)

They're saying it's to "re-tool" the picture for the international market, but they were saying that last year when they started shooting it. Hinting that it'd be part of PC's big western roll out. So yes, def excuse.

Empires and currencies rise and fall, earthquakes and tsunamis pass through, actors win the lottery of their profession or cremate their careers and flush the ashes down the toilet, but we can always count on SLB Productions for rocking, dynamic posters that are not ashamed to grab your attention.

When Craig Kilborn hosted the Later-than-Letterman Show, he used to review movie posters.
