The signs point towards this being a more grounded film for SRk, and I say it's about time.

I've heard nothing good about the director's last film, which also pulled together an interesting cast, but it's usually good to see one of the established stars try something different. My own feeling is that SRK and his generation have woke up to the fact that their time as leads is somewhat limited, and they're working on their cinematic "bucket lists."

Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan, Farhan Akhtar in Raees New Delhi, December 16, 2013 Shah Rukh Khan and Farhan Akhtar are set for their next venture - Raees. Directed by Rahul Dholakia, the film will bring Shah Rukh Khan and Farhan Akhtar in the same frame for the first time. Shah Rukh will play a bootlegger and filmmaker-turned-actor Farhan Akhtar a cop in Rahul Dholakia's Raees. Raees is slated to go on floor in mid-2014 and will hit the silver screens on Eid 2015. "Shooting for this film will begin from mid next year. Shahrukh will be playing a bootlegger and Farhan a policeman. It is an interesting story," Dholakia said. This is for the first time that Shah Rukh and Farhan will be sharing the screen space. They had worked together for the remake version of Don and its sequel Don 2, where Farhan was involved in the project as a producer while SRK played the main lead. Produced by Excel Entertainment, Raees is likely to release on Eid in 2015, said director Rahul Dholakia. www.hindustantimes.com/entertainment/bollywood/shah-rukh-khan-farhan-akhtar-in-raees/article1-1163090.aspx

Though she denied it, I do hope the rumours about Sonam being in the movie are true. It would be a real turning point for her career, especially seeing as Raees will be different from what is usually done in B-wood. This cast does look good

Farhan & Sonam won't star in the movie. Per the reports, Nawazuddin Siddiqui & Mahira Khan will star opposite Shahrukh Khan.

Thank you, just updated. Mahira Khan is apparently a popular Pakistani soap opera star.

Thank you, just updated. Mahira Khan is apparently a popular Pakistani soap opera star. You're welcome. She is. She starred alongside Fawad Khan (Khoobsurat 2014) in the Pakistani drama "Humsafar". She's a good actress. Even though she might be a better actress than Sonam, I quite liked the idea of seeing Sonam and Shahrukh on screen together. Now I'm quite miffed.

I don't feel terribly strongly about Raees, because the director's earlier films sounded pretty tiresome, and I saw some very negative reviews of his last from people that I trust, but I don't really get why a country with a thriving tv/soap opera industry has to import heroines from another country that also has a thriving tv/soap opera industry.

Because "Travel is broadening?" Actors learn more and become better, the more and more different actors they work with?
Or else it is a Secret Indian Plot to reunite all the sub-continent, artists first?

but I don't really get why a country with a thriving tv/soap opera industry has to import heroines from another country that also has a thriving tv/soap opera industry. There are probably some political reasons that make Pakistani actors attractive to BW producers, but Pakistani drama actors ARE very talented, on par or better than many big BW actors. The Pakistani dramas are known for being to a higher standard than Hindi serials, which tend to follow the same tropes, and the actors also get more scope for giving good performances, and thus having their talent recognized. : )

OT I'm not sure I'd call the Pakistani shows soaps. They are teleserials far more sensible and realistic than Hindi and American soap operas, more like the Doordarshan serials from back in the day. The actors are also used to a more naturalistic style of acting. Pakistani serials have really acquired an air of prestige in India this year thanks to ZEE Zindagi. I'm personally really impressed by them while Indian serials mostly drive me up the wall. Also, Pakistani actors have a command over the language in a way that I can tell you is disappearing or nonexistent in Bombay.
