This is something I have noticed before (as my husband can attest from my frequent complaints about it), and I'm so glad she's spoken up about this so specifically and with the numbers to illustrate. It's not enough to throw in one kick-a** female character, people. Please acknowledge that the world is full of all types of people, about half of whom happen to be female. I have to admit I was particularly annoyed on this point when watching the newest Star Trek. They had a scene where a group of leaders of Starfleet are having a meeting, so it's basically a couple of the pivotal characters and then a bunch of extras sitting around a table. How hard would it have been to make half that group female? Seriously, how hard? And this is Star Trek. It was, at one point at least, supposed to be an idealized vision of how great our future could be, equality-wise. But it apparently didn't even occur to the filmmakers to throw in some more female extras and make half of that group women.
