Apparently this film is not doing very well at the box office. Furthermore, the reviews have been mixed with the general consensus being that Aditya and Katrina were miscast and wooden in their roles. Tabu, on the other hand, has been praised for her acting in this film, although there is some criticism with the way her character was written.

OK, saw it last night! And, somewhat to my surprise, I enjoyed it! It wasn't bad. My overwhelming impression is of prettiness. Not the opulent gorgeousness of Bhansali, but, well, prettiness. This is a very pretty movie. The cinematography is pretty. Kashmir is pretty. The music is pretty. Katrina and Aditya are RIDICULOUSLY pretty. They are human, right? I don't remember Great Expectations well enough to comment on whether this was a good adaptation, but the story simultaneously seemed to strain credulity while making emotional sense, so if you're not feeling too cynical (which I wasn't, apparently) it works. Tabu was fabulous. Fabu. Tabu was fabu. It was a role that could easily have been too overwrought, but I think she walked that line impeccably and pulled it off. Katrina and Aditya were passable. As much as I admire Kat for all the things she has accomplished, elevating her acting is not one of those things. However, there was a scene here and there where I thought, "Oh wow, look, she's doing it! She's emoting! She's emoting well! It's working!" It never lasted long but hey, I've never thought that before. Aditya was almost always not quite there. Not bad, but not making me feel things alongside his character as much as I would have liked. I liked him a lot in Daawat-e-Ishq, but here I think they emphasized his time in the gym preparing for the role more than his emotional connection with his character. Aditi Rao Hydari, on the other hand, about broke my heart in her small role. She nailed it! I don't think I've seen her before; I need to check her stuff out. In brief, if you thought you might like it based on the promos, I bet you will!

We just got home and we loved it. It was a decent adaptation. Tabu was amazing and Katrina did a good job and our hero was the usual buff guy who took his shirt off a lot who knows how to cry.

With a lifetime of 18cr (domestically) the movie is declared a disaster.

Great Expectations is a difficult story to adapt to India, because it is so very English (not Scottish!). It is primarily about Money, and Inheritance. Class is a distinct second theme, and Love is a distant third. Money overtrumps both of them. This is different from America, where Love is more important, and India with its powerful Castes. Note that Miss Havisham had her trama while still single, and never married or had a child. Estella was her niece. Dancelover We just got home and we loved it. It was a decent adaptation. Tabu was amazing and Katrina did a good job and our hero was the usual buff guy who took his shirt off a lot who knows how to cry.
