What were your favorite Indian movies/actors/songs (etc.) of 2015? Judging by the 24 films of 2015 that I saw, last year was a pretty good year in Indian cinema. Most of 2015 films I've seen are from Telugu and Tamil industries but I also watched more new Hindi films than ever before (although none of them made it into my Top 5 list this time). My Top 5 of 2015: - Baahubali: The Beginning
- I
- Nirbaak
- Uttama Villain
- Papanasam
A special mention for most psychedelic moments goes to MSG: The Messenger. However, I haven't yet seen Uppi 2 which might possibly steal the title from MSG. Other 2015 films that I wasn't able to see and cannot wait to watch include Bajirao Mastani, Singh Is Bliing, MSG-2, Rajkahini, and Bruce Lee: The Fighter. My best actor award goes to Kamal Haasan who acted in three wonderful movies. The most memorable soundtracks of the year were I and Baahubali: The Beginning.

Out of all the movies I saw in theaters in 2015 I'd say Bajrangi Bhaijaan was my favorite, followed by Dil Dhadakne Do in second.
Favorite song is a tough one. "Gallan Goodiyaan," "Bhar Do Joli Meri," "Janam Janam," and basically Bajirao Mastani's entire soundtrack all vying for that honor.

Thanks for starting this thread Mikko. I've often thought we should have a Review of the Year, and then never actually created the thread.
I keep a list of the last year or so's films in my forum signature so that I don't forget what I've seen, and here is the current batch, with scores:
Bajirao Mastani 7 Tamasha 5 Prem Ratan Dhan Payo 7 Shaandaar 8 Bajrangi Bhaijaan 8 Dil Dhadakne Do 8 Tanu Weds Manu Returns 5 Bombay Velvet 6 Piku 9 OK Kanmani 8 Byomkesh Bakshy 7 Dolly Ki Doli 3
MrsB and I usually reckon to see 20 or so Bollywood movies at the cinema each year, so 2015 was thin in terms of films we thought worth watching. The only one released in 2015 that I am still keen to see is Baahubali (DVD sitting on the shelf right now). However, the overall quality was pretty good, with Piku being excellent, and DDD and Bajrangi Bhaijaan close runners up. I feel Shaandaar deserved more appreciation than it received, it was good to see a bit of old-school film making in PRDP, and OK Kanmani was probably much better than the remake. Byomkesh Bakshy and Bombay Velvet were disappointing, Bajirao Mastani was about as expected, and the rest were not good.
The soundtracks that stood out for me were Dil Dhadakne Do and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. Both had several excellent songs, that are are still on my regular playlist.

Great thread! This is really hard!
1. Baahubali. Saw it four times in the theater! 2. OK Kanmani - loved Dulquer Salmaan and this led me down the rabbit hole to wonderful Malayalam films 3. Dum Laga Ke Haisha 4. Bajrangi Baijaan 5. Dil Dhadakne Do 6. Bajirao Mastani 7. Prem Ratan Dhan Payo 8. Piku 9. Badlapur 10. NH-10
I don't know that I will ever watch Badlapur or NH-10 again, but they had an incredible impact.
What I played over and over?
The Baahubali soundtrack the Dum Laga Ke Haisha soundtrack Mental Manadhil from OK Kanmani Janam Janam and now Premika from Dilwale Prem Ratan Dhan Payo and Prem Leela from PRDP Selfie Le Re Jeena Jeena from Badlapur Gallan Goodiyan

Baahubali and Dil Dhadakne Do are the only movies from 2015 I will re-watch. Baahubali is the only soundtrack I bought in 2015.

Haven't yet had the chance to see Bajirao Mastani, Dil Dhadakne Do, or Piku, which might change my answer, but for right now my favorite of 2015 is hands down Dum Lage Ke Haishe. Byomkesh Bakshy is a close second.

Haven't seen the big four at the end of the year: Prem Ratan..., Tamasha, Bajirao Mastani, or Dilwale and I'm sure Bajirao will be in my top films of the year based on what I've read.
Here are my favorites of the year in no particular order...
Dolly Ki Doli: odd ending, but forgiven for allowing a female lead to have a little fun (and wear amazing costumes). I'm slowly becoming a big Sonam supporter.
Dum Laga Ke Haisha: charming romance
Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!: it's all about the style and setting, intelligent performance by Singh Rajput, really hope they finish the trilogy
Piku: I've never truly gotten the whole Amitabh worship thing (blasphemy...I know) and his character teeters on the extremely annoying, but I have to acknowledge that his much-praised acting skills really are on display here. Deepika is so relatable and natural and I truly believe she will be the first Indian actress to crossover successfully to mainstream Hollywood films (or at least match Aishwariya's accomplishments)...the Vin Diesel movie if it happens will only be a stepping stone.
Dil Dhadakne Do: watched it at least 5 times and still enjoy so much of it. The family dynamics play out so honestly and Shefali Shah is in Emma Thompson/Meryl Streep levels here. Even made me like Priyanka Chopra...Ranveer and Anushka's chemistry is perfect, and I just want to listen to Farhan read the phone book
Baahubali: truly epic filmmaking.
Bajrangi Bhaijaan: any movie that makes me cry for 15 straight minutes in its final moments is doing something right.
Brothers: I own the original and so had high hopes. While some of the Jackie Schroff storyline went too far into filmi melodrama, the fight scenes and a stoic Akshay Kumar made this a winner.
Shaandaar: quirky and Bollywood are a match made in heaven, Shahid's perfect styling and dancing also shine.
OK Kanmani: a touching romance, a surprise from Mani Ratnam
Favorite Actor of 2015: Shushant Singh Rajput...finally saw the promise others saw in his first films Favorite Actress of 2015: Deepika Padukone...she's so smart in the choices she's making (except maybe in dating Ranveer...he's a hot mess, albeit a charming one)
Best Songs of 2015: every single song on the Dil Dhadakne Do, "Mamta Se Bhari" and "Manohari" from Baahubali (Hindi), and every song in Shaandaar
Honorable mentions for movies watched this year that weren't made in 2015 that I really loved: Aradhana, Amar Prem, An Evening in Paris (all with Sharmila Tagore...my new favorite classic actress)
Disappointments: Badlapur and NH-10 were both well-made/produced and well-acted, but the glorification of violence in both were unwatchable for me, especially in Badlapur
Tevar: I was really looking forward to this pairing because I thought the pair physically suit each other really well, but I was so bored by this unnecessary South remake
Tanu Weds Manu Returns: I enjoyed the first film, but I've never watched a sequel that made me hate the original retroactively. Madhavan's character was just plain disgusting in his stalking of a younger woman based solely on her looks and Tanu is the epitome of a shrew...I would have preferred a movie about Jimmy Shergil and Deepak Dobriyal starting a matchmaking business or something
Katti Batti: as much as I love some of Imran Khan's rom coms, he really needs to do more like Matru Ki... and Delhi Belly.
Talvar: boring and Konkona was terrible which made me sad...just don't get the praise heaped on this one...

Favorite actresses: Priyanka Chopra, Anushka Sharma, Kangana Ranaut. IMO Dehpika does not quite match up to PC ... at least not yet. She is four years younger.

I guess I do have to confess to a long term dislike of PC and, though I was genuinely excited by Quantico at first it quickly descended into ridiculousness and PC's performance was just OK. "Successfully" might be the key word here. While Aishwariya is a recognizable name due to her Bride and Prejudice success she still never got a big time role. PC's Baywatch is a big deal and Deepika's film with Vin Diesel will probably be similar in genre. However, I still think that Deepika might be more successful at getting meatier, serious roles in the end. Of course, Tabu and other Indian actresses have already given strong performances in serious films in Hollywood, but I guess I'm talking about the first major Bollywood superstar to cross over...
