My neighbor Nish decided to throw an impromptu Diwali party last night and invited us over. There were three other Indian families that came. Nish made all what she called Indian street food. I tried my first Panipuri! One of her friends instructed me, my husband and my son how to assemble it and eat it. I thought it would be super spicy, but it isn't. Of course all I could think about was that scene in RNBDJ! The liquid is cold or room temp, and she made it from a box mix. I could totally make this, as she bought the puri puffs, and used canned chickpeas and some potatoes she boiled and cut up for the insides. The little puff things probably are even better fresh at a street vendor, but you have to pour in the liquid and then eat immediately so it's still crunchy. As my son said, "That's a lot of flavors all at once!" One of her friends brought firecrackers. We had a brief window of no rain last night between storms where we went out and had sparklers and some small firecrackers. Then one of the women turned up the music because it was Tu Meri from Bang Bang, and they were surprised I knew it. My husband grumbled, "I could practically sing it myself she plays that one so much." Dancing in the kitchen! Super fun!

That's awesome, moviemavengal! Sounds like an amazing time, and yes, panipuri are soooo yummy. My Diwali celebrations consisted of ordering Indian takeout and watching the GOP debate. Riveting, eh? Happy belated Diwali, BollyWhat!

I bought some laddoos (box of 12)and ate some of them. Mustn't forget the rest are in the fridge. I discovered my son had scoffed most of the laddoos! So I had to hastily scoff the last 2....
