Really wanted to talk about this film so I just made a thread for it. Spoilers below.
Finished this last night and feeling disappointed by it even the next morning. I wanted to love it, I really did. And part of me did love it. Maybe it's just because I'm been watching it at night after long days when I'm super cranky, but still. I've loved everything Aditya's directed so far and this was definitely the weakest link.
I guess I'm really tired of SRK "phoning it in." There are roles he plays where he *becomes* the character and you really forget you're watching Superstar Shah Rukh. This movie, IMO, was not one of those roles. And God, it was annoying. And the love for his dead girlfriend didn't really come off as endearing or passionate, it came off as...weird. And nauseating. I don't know, maybe that's just me. The conflict between him & Amitabh was dragged out far too long. They could have easily shortened it & knocked like 20 or 30 mins off the film but hey, that's Bollywood, right?
I think the young trio of couples really shined here most of all. I wanted to watch them, not this pissing match between the two leads. Do they remind anyone else of the trio from Dil Chahta Hai or is that just me? A less memorable version of that trio? You've got cheeky Uday, who's a lot like Aamir Khan's Aakash, then Jugal's Samir who reminds me of Saif's Samir, and Jimmy Shergill's character reminds me of Akshaye Khanna but less attractive & more hair. I really got the DCH vibe from them and I liked it. I wanted to see a lot more of them.
Some other tidbits: you could play a drinking game with how many midriffs are shown in this movie, lol. I guess no one in Mohabbatein Land owns any shirts. The songs were all right but like three of them sounded very similar. It was kind of like a less-memorable edition of the DDLJ soundtrack. I did like the music; just not my fave soundtrack ever. Anupam Kher was that token over-the-top character brought in to lighten the mood but instead ends up annoying you to no end. It was nice seeing "crazy eyes" Amrish Puri. Unlike DDLJ and RNBDJ, I felt this script and the plot was very weak and meandering. Will probably not watch again.
Thoughts? (Sorry if I just shot down your favorite movie...lol!)
