This is a remake, by the original director, Jeethu Joseph, of the Malayalam thriller/black comedy Drishyam, in which a middle-aged, middle-class family man has to help his wife and daughter cover up their sort-of accidental/justifiable killing of a college-aged man harassing the teenaged daughter. The film's run up against some controversy due to the protagonist's coverup methods strongly resembling the Japanese book and film "Devotion of Suspect X" (this might have been some kind of in-joke on the filmmaker's part, because the protagonist is supposed to be a major film nerd, but if so it sailed completely over the heads of most of the film critics). It's particularly awkward because Ajay is on friendly terms with Balaji, the production house which has bought the rights to officially remake Suspect X.
This may be a 2016 release-Jeethu Joseph has some other stuff in the pipeline first, including a Tamil remake of Drishyam with Kamal Haasan, and Ajay's supposedly heavily focused on his directoral effort Shivaay, which is reputed to be his only 2015 release.

Latest word was that Ajay was putting his directoral project Shivaay on the backburner and focusing on getting this filmed and released this year. Apparently the director of Tevar is now directing this; I haven't seen that one, but the critics on Tevar usually claimed that it was a generic story with better direction than it deserved.

Latest word is that Tabu is appearing in this as the most honorable and sympathetic of several police officers involved in the case, sort of a Worthy Opponent for the main guy to match wits with.

Maybe Tabu's character and Rani's character from Marjani might work together. Dancelover

South Indian star Shriya Saran has accepted the role of Ajay's wife. She made a couple of Bollywood films in the late 00s (Mission Istaanbul, Ek: The Power of One) but was better known on the old Bollywhat boards for Sivaji: the Boss, Kanthaswamy, Chatrapathi, and Don Seenu.
An actor-director named Rajat Kapoor is playing Tabu's husband.

The trailer feels a bit disjointed, but it succeeds at being mysterious and setting up the basics-Ajay's trying to protect his family and matches wits with Tabu in the process. I want this to do well for him, because Bollywood and its viewers need to get used to the idea that it's okay for Ajay and his contemporaries to be playing married men with children (even teenaged children), and because he could use a non-franchise hit.

It's a cute song, with a clever way of um, "framing" these slice of life moments.

Shriya is the third up-from-the-South star to pair with Ajay (Asin, Tamaanah). Correction: Fourth such star. Sady caught that I missed Kajal Aggarwal. My excuse is that I have classified her as stayed-in-the-south, unlike the others who seemed to have moved to Mumbai now. But commuting between Chennai & Mumbai is so easy these days! D. The film revolves around Vijay Salgaonkar (Ajay Devgan) and his family, who get targeted by the police when the son of IG Meera Deshmukh (Tabu) goes missing and the evidence seems to point at Vijay.
