I suppose Sussanne is independently wealthy? I don't see anything inelegant in her getting a share of his wealth considering how long they were together, she's the mother of his children, and oh yeah, they're loaded and it wouldn't hurt Hritik... Hrithik Roshan, Sussanne now legally divorcedHrithik Roshan and his estranged wife Sussanne Khan were granted divorce by the Bandra court Saturday, the Bollywood star's lawyer said. Lawyer Deepesh Mehta told IANS, "They are legally divorced now. Today at around 10:30 a.m., all things were done. They have got divorced in a very unique and elegant way where there is no alimony and not a single document drawn up between them. It's all on the basis of trust, respect and faith." Mehta said "this is an example they have set on how a couple should part ways in an elegant and classy way." It was earlier reported that a Rs.100 crore alimony was involved in their divorce but Sussanne had officially denied it. The couple is blessed with two children Hrehaan and Hridhaan. The kids custody will be joint. "They have joint custody. Whenever and whoever wants to be with the kids, can be with them," Mehta said. Hrithik announced Sussanne's decision to end their 17-year-old relationship via an official statement Dec 13, 2013. Both dated for four years before finally tying the knot Dec 20, 2000.

They got the divorce so easily, and Kharisma Kapoor had to wait for ten years!

Inspite of Hrithik's weird passive-aggressive behavior right around the time of their official separation, my impression is that they've tried to keep it civil for the sake of the children. Karishma's marriage and divorce was reputed to be a messy and combative business, so that's why it took longer.
As far as dispensing with a formal alimony agreement, it's possible Hrithik and Suzanne have been so put off by the gossip claiming that she was asking ludicrous amounts of money that they decided to keep any financial arrangements as a handshake agreement that doesn't really exist on paper.

Regardless of how civil it may seem, divorce is never an easy business - especially when both parties are so incredibly wealthy. I'm going to take that lawyer's words with a couple of grains of salt, my feeling is that there is some formal financial arrangement that has been dealt with very privately. I'm sure that both Hrithik and Sussanne are putting their kids' well-being first, but when there's so much money at stake certain legal stipulations have to be made very clear, because one never knows what may happen down the road, things might not remain friendly in case one of them decides to re-marry or move away etc. and it may lead to legal battles.

As a child of divorce, I can tell you that if this is truly the arrangement they're working with (with no formal rules about who gets the children and when), things are bound to get messy pretty quickly. It may seem like a good idea at the time, but children in split families need routine and one of the biggest reasons divorced parents fight is over the time they get to spend with the kids. I really hope for their children's sake that they remain cordial. I also have a really weird fascination with what the media is going to turn Hrithik's personal life into now that he's single

newauntie and victoria: those are good points.
On the joint custody thing, given the way Hrithik gets completely wrapped up in his film projects (w/ some people claiming that as a bigger part in their breakup than the more sensationalistic stuff), and the news items and stuff claiming that he's getting used to be "single"...I don't know if he's going to be all that demanding of his children's time. But I guess we'll see.
