I'm also a Chetan Bhagat fan, and a Salman fan, but Kick does credit to neither. I saw it yesterday and can barely remember it, it was so undistinguished. Salman does his thing in the normal way, but the film has no soul and no wit, giving him nothing to work with. The story is just too stupid, and the editing quite incoherent (for example, the bus chase scene happens partly in Poland and partly in London, and they don't even bother about the police cars changing colouring and spelling part way through). And Nargis Fakhri is an appalling item number dancer. On the plus side, this may well be Jacqueline Fernandez' best performance - she's quite acceptable in her part - and Nawazuddin Siddiqui enjoys himself hamming up the villain role.

Box Office India says that Kick earned about 81 crore over the weekend, and another 13 on Monday. It is The Biggest Hit Of The Year, so far, by far! Turned Jai Ho into Ho-Ho.

Friday August 1st: KICK has now been proclaimed a Blockbuster by Box Office India. D

Sudhish Kamath's reviewYes, it is a very loyal remake of the equally mind-numbing Telugu flick of the same name. Anyone could have remade it by hiring the best technicians in the business but full credit to the producer Sajid Nadiadwala for assembling this cast and crew (Even Chetan Bhagat got paid for something) to tell us the story of Indian mainstream cinema itself in this scale.
Kick is thus at once esoterically emblematic of our times and succinctly sensible cinema that will enthrall your… Hahahaha! Gotcha. You almost bought it, didn’t you?
The film’s downright stupid, a guilty pleasure at best – that once again has Salman Khan do his thing you’ve seen before. No matter what the reviews say, you’re going to go watch it.
So why all the analysis? They pretended to make a film. This critic pretended to review it. For kicks.

Colour me happily Confused! This was my first foray back into Bollywood after a Granny absence of nearly 2 years. Salman was the same ol' Salman which I found quite endearing. However, I didn't quite ever manage to follow the twists and turns of what was going on in the story. I did see that a love for violence was totally indulged as was the usual "you are my woman and I can do with you whatever I like" ethos. The plot was ridiculous -- hence the confused colour that I am right now... But once the ridiculousness was accepted, and the moment to moment embraced, things improved a lot for me -- so, happy and confused. But -- I did like it and I did like the villain's quirky mannerisms (by villain I mean the alleged philanthropist who gave money to Salman) and I did like all the references to previous roles that Salman has played. I was hoping that his name tag at the end of the movie would read "Chulbul Pandey". I thought that would have been much more fitting and funnier.

Koimoi is now calling Kick a "Hit" only, not a Superhit.
