Apparently the film is not doing well and the main factor is the usage of chaste urdu - which IS subtitled, but people are simply lazy to read Like what the bhen, as Vigil idiot would say.

So it's been out for barely 3 days and they're already declaring that it's not doing well? I know that it's a big thing these days to count box office grosses by the hour, but I wish they would just stop doing it and just let word of mouth build a healthy buzz. It's not as if this was blockbuster material, anyway. Quite a few movies in the past have started out slowly and became iconic hits(Jab We Met comes to mind).
Looking forward to seeing it this weekend!!

According to the website for my local theater, there are no subtitles with this movie. I was really looking forward to seeing it, but I need subtitles. Sometimes there are mistakes on their website, but only rarely. Does anyone here know it the US copies of this film are subbed?

Martha: the only theater near(ish) to me that carries Bollywood is not listing Dedh Ishqiya, so I don't know. Here's an article about DI's Fri/Sat box office, stating that it has made 9 crore in those two days: boxofficecapsule.net/dedh-ishqiya-2014-2nd-day-box-office-collection/Keep in mind that the film was made for 15 crore and had a fairly modest budget for promotions, from what I can tell. By sometime Sunday or Monday it will probably have grossed what it cost to make, and I assume it will make back its "landing cost" (making-of budget plus promotional budget) in its first week. Will the distributors and exhibitors whine and moan and claim that they paid too much for the distribution/exhibition rights? Possibly, but since that situation makes for such a convenient tax dodge on their part, why should we believe them? Will the media outlets that were hyping the movie up now preceed to tear it down, just because that narrative brings eyeballs (and advertising money) to their websites? Yeah, probably. But the first one was not some kind of blockbuster, just a low-budget movie that more or less broke even and attracted a lot of favorable reviews for being something "different" from the 2010 norm. This one seems to be in the same position.

The reponse from the audience on Twitter is truly amazing. Of course not everybody is smitten, but with honesty I have had a chance to observe the Dedh Ishqiya tag for basically whole day and 95% of the tweets rank from positive to absolutely extatic. I, of course, can only wait for DVD

Several reviews mentioned that it has subtitles in most parts of India, so it would be surprising if they're not there on overseas prints. That said, I can't find any proof.

It didn't come here. I am so disappointed. You think they would show it here since Madhuri used to live about 2 miles from the theater!

Saw it yesterday. The print had subtitles . I understand Hindi, however the film has dialogues mostly in Urdu and sub-titles really helped. It is a delightful movie. I enjoyed Khalu and Babban again. Madhuri and Huma did well in their roles. To me, it seemed Vidya had a more substantial role in Ishqiya.

What a wonderful film. Full of brilliant actors, given the opportunity to put in brilliant performances. No point in wasting time repeating all the reviews; I'll just make the obvious pun and say: go and see it, it's dedh good.

I can not believe that too much Urdu poetry would keep people away from a movie. My guess: It is not what Indian audiences have learned to love, or learned how to appreciate. The music is not loved. The indoor lighting is dim. The women dress modestly. The presentation is cerebral rather than blatantly emotional. These factors don't make for blockbuster movies. NewAuntie, success is first measured by % of seats filled. Blockbusters fill 90% or more. 50% might suffice for a Hit. DI filled 20% on Friday, per Boxofficeindia, which has been unavailible yesterday and today. Dancelover Apparently the film is not doing well and the main factor is the usage of chaste urdu - which IS subtitled, but people are simply lazy to read Like what the bhen, as Vigil idiot would say.

What a terrific movie! I loved it. The afternoon show was packed with a very animated audience which always makes for a great watching experience. When Madhuri's name came on the credits people were hooting and clapping. I'll join MrB in his rec and say run to see it!

boxofficeindia.com/boxnewsdetail.php?page=shownews&articleid=6383&t Yaariyan good weekend but poor trend; Dedh Ishqiya low weekend. Yaariyan Friday 5.5 Sat 5.0 Sun 6.0 = 16.5 Crore Weekend. Will break even, at least DI F 2.75 Sat 3.75 Sun Sun 5 = 11.5 Could sustain over weekdays; (probably) won't cover costs. My comment: Unless it "sustains" itself into a Second Weekend at least as big as the First. Dancelover
