Sanjeev Kumar is today most known for Sholay, Seeta aur Geeta (unfortunately, one of his worst performances), and a handful of "artistic" Hindi-language movies with Bengali directors, such as Anubhav, Mausam, Koshish, and Namkeen. And for being, um, overweight and alcoholic. But when he was younger and comparatively thinner, he was a rather dapper, distinguished looking man who gave entertainingly hammy, over-the-top performances in entertainingly hammy, over-the-top b-movies. Insaan Aur Shaitan from 1970 is my favorite of these, a convoluted story about a young security officer (Sanjeev) who is mistaken for a hitman (Sanjeev again) and accused of stealing valuable microfilms and causing a train crash that blinded his own father. It's an unsophisticated but energetic movie that rarely slows down, has relatively proactive female characters, Sanjeev looking surprisingly dashing in a tux, and contains plot elements that foreshadow both Sholay and Don.
Shemaroo recently made it available without subtitles on youtube; I personally feel that it is fairly watchable unsubbed, but then again I feel pretty familiar with the genre:
The songs, by female composer Usha Khanna:
