The original Welcome was a comedy starring Anil and Nana as two comical gangsters trying to get the daughter (Katrina Kaif) of one of them married to a dorky nice guy played by Akshay Kumar. This sequel retains Anil and Nana as the gangsters, but has a new set of lovebirds, played by John Abraham and Shruti Hassan, and has supposedly hired Amitabh Bachchan as a replacement for the late Feroz Khan, who played a more senior and sinister gangster. Director Anees Bazmi and the producers made very nasty and belittling public statements about Shraddha Kapoor in response to rumors that she had turned down the female role, and between that and one of the producers allegedly making death threats to director Rajkumar Santoshi about an unrelated matter, and the other producer being Priyanka's former manager whom she fired in the early/mid-00s for alleged financial improprieties, the actors are probably the best-behaved people in the project for once.

This has had some trouble finding a distributor, supposedly due to the producer having been away from the business for a while (his last project was Aarakshan back in 2011) and having trouble adjusting to the new operating and negotiating procedures that had evolved in the meantime. But Eros has finally picked up the project, along with Hera Pheri 3 (a work in progress from the same producer and some of the same cast) and appears to have set it to release Sept 11, 2015.
This is somewhat important for John Abraham-who's been off the screen for a while-and Shruti, who hasn't had too many hits up north, but otherwise it's mostly noteworthy as a potential gamechanger for the low-brow multi-starrer comedy genre, which has been having a rough couple of years. If it succeeds, we will probably getting more of these for better or for worse (I personally have liked some, but can take or leave the genre as a whole). If not, they will likely disappear for a while.

Dang, Paresh Rawal needs to shoot his makeup artist and hire Dimple's. Nana Patekar was pretty much the best thing about the first one, aside from the songs and the 10 or so minutes of cute soft-focus Akki/Kat romance sprinkled throughout, and it looks like he is in fine form here. Don't like John's character: I get that the romantic leads are not really the main point of the story, but he just comes off as too much of a jerk for my taste.
It's not without some charming moments but it feels dated.
