I did not care for her when I first saw her in Surya's Singam, but she really impressed me in Nagavalli and Vedam, and now I'm kind of a fan.  I look forward to seeing her Ancient Times/Other Worlds roles. |

She's not the best dancer in the film by a long shot, but she puts so much feeling into it.

If there wasn't Tamannaah, A. Shetty would be my favorite South Indian actress. She carries herself well and demonstrates great confidence in her films (at least, from what I've seen so far).
You're right. And I hope to see Kajol and Tamannaah reach that stage.

I had a friend coming to visit, wasn't sure how he'd react to Indian films while he was here - we can't get through a weekend without at least one playing - so by way of encouragement I emailed him the following picture (as we were planning to rewatch Vikramarkudu, which he ended up enjoying immensely) with the note this actress would be in the movie:  He emailed back that he figured he'd be able to stand watching her. When we first saw Panchakshari, we loved the opening intro song, couldn't remember ever seeing an actress have her own "hero style" bang - up music item. This is the dubbed version, can't find an original on Youtube with any decent quality. |

Anushka Shetty was born in November 1981 (Wikipedia) so is a year older than Shriya Saran.
Her debut was in 2005 (Super [Telugu]) at age 23 - as if she worked in Mumbai!
She is eight years older than Tamannah Bhatia, but they debuted in the same year.
Now both Shriya & Tamana are looking for work in Bollywood, (save Bahubala),
but Anushka still dominates in the South!

Anushka is my favorite South actress, even though I haven't kept up with her movies (or South movies in general) in quite a while. I think if I was a young Indian girl who needed a female public persona/actress to look up to, I would be totally fangirl-obsessed with her. I loved her chemistry with Gopichand in Lakshyam and Shouryam.
