Hi Bollyfans,
today I am wondering about sentences in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.
At 0:55:31, Carina says: "I'm an astronomer." And she is replied by a pirate: "Ah! Ah, she breeds donkeys."
All right, a donkey is also an ass, but why would an "ass-tronomer" breed donkeys?
Then, at 1:09:21, Carina says: "I'm not only an astronomer, I'm also a horologist." And pirates reply: "No shame in that, dear. I mean, we all have to earn a living, eh?" CARINA: "No. No, I'm a horologist." JACK: "So was my mum. Are you saying your mother was academically inclined? "
And so on.
Is there a play on words with "whore-ologist" or something like that? It seems very complicated to me, can you lend a hand?

It seems very complicated to me, can you lend a hand? Both of your conclusions are correct. They are just jokes based on the first part of the word.
